Alice Lloyd softball hosts Rio Grande University in twin bill
Pippa Passes, KY: On April 26th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team hosted the divisions second-ranked Rio Grande University Red Storm in a doubleheader. The Buckeye club would prove to be a formidable opponent as they would take both contests. ALC's record now sits at 14-32 (3-27 RSC) while RGU moves to 28-16 (20-10 RSC).
Game 1
Alice Lloyd-1; RGU-8
The Ohio crew opened the scoring in the second inning as a double and single delivered 4 runs (4-0). In the very next inning, they would knock a homerun to pull ahead 5-0.
ALC dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning when Mckenzie Orfield unloaded on a fast ball and parked it over the left field wall to pull her club within four, 5-1.
Unfortunately, Rio would extend their cushion in the fourth as a double and pair of singles brought three runners across home plate. This made their lead 8-1, and that score would hold up until the final out was registered.
For the Eagles, Orfield finished 3-3, but she was the only Lady Eagle to register a hit for the game. She also provided the lone RBI.
On the mound, Katie Samuel suffered the loss. In 2 innings of work, she gave up 3 hits and 4 earned runs with 2 walks
Kinna Justice relieved for 1.2 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs with 1 strikeout. Carly Creech closed the final 3.1 innings allowing just 1 hit.
The Bluegrass club was outhit 9-3 and committed 3 errors.
Game 2

The Ohio club would open the scoring in the second inning, scoring a pair of runs on a double (2-0).
They would then build on that in the third when they belted a three-run bomb to extend the lead to 5-0.
In the fifth, they extracted major damage as they rode a pair of doubles and four singles to produce 6 huge runs. The score now stood 11-0.
Down to their last chance, ALC saw Kirsten Vice (P) lead off the inning with a single. Later, a second single by Ellie Hunt (DH) broke the ice for the hosts (11-1) However, after placing two runners on base, a long fly ball ended the contest.
For the game, ALC had 6 hits on the day as Vice delivered a pair of singles.
On the mound for ALC, Vice gave up 7 hits and 9 runs in 4.1 innings. She was relieved by Maleigh McDaniel who finished the contest allowing 3 hits and 2 runs. Both pitchers whiffed 1 batter.
The Ohio club would win the hitting battle 10-6 while the Pippa Passes posse committed 3 errors.
