Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles drop close RSC contest at Saint Mary of the Woods

Saint Mary of the Woods, IN: On Thursday, January 20th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady concluded their road trip in Indiana by facing the homestanding Saint Mary of the Woods Pomeroy's. In a matchup that was tight throughout, the Kentucky squad fell to the Hoosier team, 85-78.

In the opening stanza, SMWC shot well, draining eight attempts to just four for their counterparts. Fortunately, ALC would bag a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe, and only trail 20-17 after ten minutes of play.

In the second quarter, the Kentucky girls would utilize good teamwork as six different Lady Eagles dented the scoreboard. After a well-played period, the visiting ladies would enter the locker room at intermission only trailing 40-39. ALC guard Hanna Kash led everyone with 15 first half points.

In the third stanza, the Indiana fans would see ALC freshman forward Jamie Cowan produce half of her teams points in a quick 10-4 burst. At 7:30, the visitors led 49-44, and things looked promising. However, Saint Mary answered by feeding the ball inside to Brooklyn Jones, who boosted her club to a 21-9 edge the rest of the way. The run would enable the hosts to enter the final period holding a 65-58 edge.

 In the final ten minutes the Pippa Passes club would fight bitterly to regain the lead. When senior guard Riley Schreck  connected on a long-bomb with 5:22 showing on the scoreboard, the deficit was reduced to just one (71-70). Unfortunately, the Lady Pomeroy squad would pull away down the stretch by swishing 9-10 foul shots to clinch the victory. 

For Alice Lloyd (9-9; 4-5 RSC), Kash, would lead everyone with 27 points. She also led the way with 6 assists and 2 steals.

Schreck played well as she contributed 14 points on 4-5 trifectas. Freshman guard Abby Maggard would sink two trifectas and add 12 points. In addition, senior forward Madison Thompson added 9 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block while Cowan chipped in with 9 points.

The eastern Kentucky team finished shooting 45.5% (25-55) from the field and 54.5 (12-22) from long range. They also sank 94.1% (16-17) from the foul line while adding 19 rebounds, 16 assists, 3 blocks and 5 steals.

Jones led the winning team (11-7; 6-2 RSC) with 21 points. Her squad finished shooting 42.4% (28-66) from the field, 33.3% (4-13) from behind the arc, and 78.1% (25-32) from the charity stripe. They also added 53 huge rebounds, 16 assists, 5 blocks and 4 steals

The Lady Eagles return home on Tuesday, January 23rd, when they face the Indiana Southeast Grenadiers in the top-half of a critical RSC doubleheader. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM.
