Alice Lloyd Volleyball wins three on the road
Grand Rapids, MI: The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles (6-3) volleyball team traveled north to Grand Rapids Michigan for a four-game weekend series hosted by Kuyper College. On Friday, they battled the host Kuyper Cougars as well as the Oakland City Lady Oaks (IN). They followed that up on Saturday by playing Kuyper for a second time, then concluding the action against the Grace Christian Tigers (MI). Once the dust had settled, the Bluegrass ladies would head home with three nice wins in four games, and lift their record to 6-3.
September 5th
Match 1
ALC-3; Kuyper-1
The Eagles would drop the opening game before roaring back to take the four-set win over the hosts (0-2).
In game 1, the contest was close early, but the Cougars closed with a late run to win, 25-17.
Game 2 saw the Caney Creek crew grab a lead and slowly pull out to the 25-17 win.
Game 3, saw the Bluegrass ladies jump ahead 15-4 and cruise to the solid 25-8 win.
Game 4 saw a determined bunch of Lady Eagles vow to end the festivities, and once again, they grabbed the lead and steadily pulled away, settling for the 25-19 victory.
For the match, Callie Butler led the club with 13 kills while Taylan Hoskins and Kyleah Ward both added 8. Gracie Gibson produced 17 digs and Layla Peterson delivered 14. Payton Taylor dished out 21 assists while Gracie Gibson paved the way with 4 big aces. Christa Amburgey provided 5 blocks.
Match 2
ALC-1; Oakland City- 3
OCU would take the second match in a four-set win over the Caney club.
In game 1, the Indiana Oaks jumped out to an early lead and managed to hang on to it and take the game, 25-20.
Game 2 saw the Hoosier team play well and take a quick lead. They would then extend it on the way to a 25-14 win.
Game 3, saw the Pippa Passes posse play their best ball as they took control early. They would keep the pressure on and take the game, 25-18.
Game 4 saw OCU turn the tables as they took an early lead. Alice Lloyd played hard, but could never mount the big run they needed before falling, 25-15.
For the match, Ward and Rose Scotello led the club with 7 kills apiece while Taylor was solid with 26 assists. Gibson and Jadyn Hall led in digs with 12 and 11 respectively. Gibson led with 2 aces and Ward had 6 blocks.
September 6th
Match 3
ALC-3; Kuyper-1
For the second-straight day against Kuyper (0-3), the Eagles would drop the opening game before racing back to take the four-set win
In game 1, the contest was close throughout, but the Cougars closed with the final run to win, 25-21.
Game 2 saw the Caney Creek crew jump out of the gate strong and cruise on to the 25-15 win.
Game 3, saw the Kentucky ladies jump ahead and gain a slight lead. They would then maintain their distance the rest of the way and seal the game, 25-19.
Game 4 saw a Lady Eagles squad seeking to close the match. While the Cougars never went away, they could not overcome an early deficit. ALC slammed the door shut with a 25-17 victory.
For the match, Butler and Ward led the club with 13 and 10 kills respectively while Taylor and Peterson dished out 13 and 10 assists. Taylor (13) and Gibson (12) provided the digs with Gibson and Taylor came up big in aces, both earning 5. Amburgey had 2 blocks.
Match 4
ALC-3; Grace Christian-1
The Lady Eagles would take the closing match in a four-set win over the Tigers (1-2) .
In game 1, the east Kentucky girls roared out the gate with a monster burst, and eventually closed the game, 25-15.
Game 2 saw Grace answer as they grabbed an early advantage. They would refuse to fold as they pulled away for the 25-17 win.
Game 3, saw the Pippa Passes posse turn the tables as they grabbed the quick advantage and refused to give it up. This time, they would be on the good end of a 25-17 score.
On the day, Butler led the club with 14 kills while Taylor handed out 24 assists. Gibson led in digs (15). Amburgey's 2 aces and 7 blocks led in both departments.
