Alice Lloyd Cross Country 2023 Season Preview

The Alice Lloyd College women and men's Cross Countrysquads are excited to begin the 2023 campaign as they will be participating in both the NAIA and NCCAA this season. First year Coach Emily Reagan offered her thoughts on the upcoming campaign.

1) What do you most look forward to in coaching these teams for the first time?

I look most forward to helping my teams get better together and grow into strong competitors.

2) What are some things your teams look to improve upon this season?

Overall our teams are working on refining their abilities. Every runner is different, so some are focusing on improving their form while others are working towards building up a better base

3) What are your goals for the teams this season?

Our goals for the teams this season are to work hard to get the best out of their ability and to be good teammates. Obviously, we want to be competitive and go far in the National Tournament, but those results will show when our runners give their best effort and help each other. We expect a lot of PRs this season.

4) What should someone expect if they come watch your teamscompete?

Spectators should expect to see our teams exhibit a lot of heart and sportsmanship at meets this season. We are blessed with dedicated runners who are working hard to get even stronger. They are encouraging each other and developing close-knit relationships that will help them make it through the tough moments in races.

5) Can you tell me some advantages you think your teams could have over their opponents?

Besides being such a close group, I think hill training will be a unique advantage of this team. We compete against several squads that have flat courses and can't train hills the way we do. For our team, because of the geography, hills are a normal part of almost every practice. We expect our team to pull away from the pack when they encounter hills on a course and to use that extra endurance on flat courses.

The ALC Cross Country squads open their regular season on September 1st as both will participate in the Shawnee StateUniversity Invitational 5K in Portsmouth, Ohio. The opening race is set for 5:30pm at Riverside Park.
