Alice Lloyd Baseball Eagles Win Three, Defeat Maranatha Baptist and Berea College

Pippa Passes, KY: On March 21st, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team played host to two teams for three contests. The first two were against the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats from Wisconsin, while the third was against central Kentucky's Berea Mountaineers. When the dust had settled, the Eagles had powered their way to a nice sweep.

GAME 1

Alice Lloyd-13; Maranatha-0

 

In the series opener, ALC plated runs in each of the first five innings to win going away. Alice Lloyd would strike quickly with a run, courtesy of a TJay Mullins (LF) double (1-0). They would add 2 in the second on a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice (3-0). In the third, 2 more Pippa Passes men would cross the base (5-0), with the big hit being a double to center by Caleb Horton (2B). Mullins would then drive in 1 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly (6-0). His team would then blow the game apart in the seventh. In that decisive inning, Nick VanKeuren (RF) would deliver 2 runs with a double (8-0). Next, Mullins would smash a triple to plate 2 (10-0), before scoring himself on a wild pitch (11-2). Finally, Horton would lace his second double of the day to produce the final scores (13-0).

The hosts registered 12 hits on the day, with Horton's 4-4 effort paving the way. Mullins and Ryan Cozart (SS) each provided 2 hits. Mullins and Horton evenly split 8-RBI's between them while VanKeuren came through with 3 more.

Trenton Williams started the game for ALC and was impressive with a gem of a performance. He went the distance, hurling a 3-hit.shutout in seven innings, allowing just 3 hits. He whiffed 9 and walked 1.

The victors produced 12 hits to MBC's 3 and committed 1 error compared to the Sabercats' 3.

 

GAME 2

Alice Lloyd-11; Maranatha-2

 

The visitors struck quickly only to see the Pippa Passes Eagles dominate the remainder of the game to earn the win.

The game started great for the Wisconsin club when a double helped produce a couple of runs (2-0). The score remained identical until the bottom of the second. In that inning, Cannon Ferrell (CF) would tie the score with a double (2-2). Later, a sacrifice fly gave the hosts the lead (3-2). In the Eagle third inning, a double by Corey Jefferson (C) delivered another run (4-2), but the fourth would blow open the contest. In that inning, 2 errors, a double by Noah Dingess (1B), and a single by Isaiah Beckett (2B) led to a bounty of 6 big runs (10-2). In the fifth, one final run would score on a long sacrifice (11-2).

Alice Lloyd racked up 13 hits on the day, with Dingess and Ferrell each knocking 3 and producing 2 RBI'S while Mullins, Beckett, and Jefferson all delivered 2.

Matthew Hebar started the game for ALC and took the victory. He went 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 8 hits. He whiffed 5 batters and walked 1. Lucas Combs entered to face seven batters, allowing 2 hits, 0 runs, and KO'ing 4 more. Noah Hamer registered the final out.

Both squads committed 2 errors on the day, while the Caney Creek Crew won the hitting battle 12-2, including 7 extra-base hits.

 

GAME 1

Alice Lloyd-9; Berea-5

 

ALC pulled away in the mid-part of the contest to take out the NCAA DIII school.

Alice Lloyd would gain 2 quick runs in their opening-at-bat when Mullins lined a single to bring in a duo of runners (2-0). Pitching then dominated until the fifth inning. In the top of inning five, the Mountaineers finally broke through as a double and single led to 3 scores. BC now led, 3-2. Happily, for the home fans, the visitors wouldn't hold it long. In the ALC half of the inning, Mullins would come through with a double to knot the score (3-3. Berea then gave the Eagles a gift run when an error brought another Caney Creek man home (4-3). They would gain more separation in the seventh. In that important inning, Cole Bishop (C) and Isiah Beckett (2B) each delivered doubles, which added 3 important runs to the tally (7-3). In the eighth, Berea would score 1 on a wild pitch (7-4), but fortunately, they would go down swinging. The east Kentucky club would then combat that mistake when Dingess stroked a single to bring in 2 of his mates (9-3), Now down to their last chance, BC could only manage 1 final run (9-5) before the Pippa Passes boys sealed the deal on a good day of work.

The hosts registered 14 hits on the day, with Mullins leading the pack with three of them. Cozart, Bishop, Isaiah Beckett, VanKeuren, and Dawson Beckett (3B) all provided 2 more. Mullins led with 3 RBIs, while Dingess and Isaiah Beckett each brought home 2 more.

Jason Frye started the game for ALC and took the victory. He went 4 innings, allowing just 1 earned run on 6 hits. He whiffed 5 Mountaineers and walked 0. Will Gladson produced over the final four innings, allowing 5 hits, and 2 runs, and taking down 2 more.

The winners delivered 14 hits to BC's 12 and committed 2 errors compared to the guest's 1.
