Alice Lloyd Baseball Eagles host Ohio Christian University in River States Conference series

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team returned home to face the Ohio Christian University Trailblazers in a three-game conference series on April 7th-8th. When the weekend had ended, the visitors had managed to take two of three. ALC's record now stands at 12-23 (1-16 RSC), while OCU moves to 12-22 (9-9 RSC) 

April 7, 2023

GAME 1

Alice Lloyd-6; OCU 12

In the series opener, Ohio Christian jumped out quickly to take the win.

OCU scored four runs in the first, fueled by a 2-run blast (4-0), but ALC would gain one of those back in their second attempt when Cannon Ferrell (CF) hit a grounder to drive in a score (4-1).

In the Trailblazer fourth, a double and single each paid dividends with a couple of runs, and set the scoreboard 8-1.

In the Eagle fifth, with two runners on base, Ryan Cozart (2B) singled in both men to slice into the deficit (8-3), but the Ohio squad earned those back in the very next inning.

In the sixth, the visiting club used a double to plate two (10-3). They then added a score in the eighth on a single (11-3) and a final score in the ninth with their second homerun (12-3).

The hosts gained a trio of runs in their last chance, with Corey Jefferson's' (SS) single and two long fly-outs delivering the goods (12-6). However, it was too little too late.

The Pippa Passes squad registered 9 hits on the day, with Ferrell and Cole Bishop (C) each knocking a pair of singles. Cozart provided 3 RBIs.

On the mound, Will Gladson started and went 3.1 innings, allowing 8 hits, and 8 runs (7 earned), with 1 strikeout. In relief, Dawson Beckett went 4.2 innings and allowed 8 hits and 3 earned runs, while whiffing 4. Lucas Combs gave up a run in the final inning.

The victors pounded 17 hits to ALC's 9, and the home squad committed all 4 errors on the day.

April 8, 2023

GAME 2

Alice Lloyd-1; OCU-14

The Ohio squad jumped out to a quick lead with a huge second inning to win going away.

The game turned rough for the Eagles in the second, when the Buckeye state club rode a triple, two doubles, and three singles to produce a windfall of seven runs (7-0).

Over the next four innings, the Trailblazers scored one, three, one, and two runs to vault ahead 14-0. They were aided in their scoring by smacking two home runs.

ALC finally dented the scoreboard in their very final at-bat. In that inning, Isaiah Kelly lined a single to center to drive in a run. However, the contest ended right afterward.

Alice Lloyd recorded 7 hits on the day, with seven individuals gaining one each. Jefferson and Kizer Turner (3B) each cracked a double, while Kelly had the lone RBI.

Chase Conley started the game for ALC and suffered the loss. He went 3 innings, allowing 7 hits and 11 runs (4 earned runs). Trenton Williams came on in relief and allowed 2 hits and 3 earned runs. He recorded the crews only K. Combs went the final 1.2 innings and gave up 1 hit.

The home club was only outhit, 10-7, but did themselves in once again with 4 errors.

Game 3

Alice Lloyd-7; OCU-2

The final game of the series was a complete reversal of the first two as the Bluegrass squad looked impressive on both ends in taking the win.

In the bottom of the first, leadoff batter Ferrell teed off on a fastball and drove it over the left field wall for a 1-0 lead. His club was not finished yet.

An error and fielders' choice allowed two men to score (3-0), then Isaiah Beckett (2B) capped off the inning with a single to left to deliver a 4-0 cushion.

In the very next inning, OCU committed two errors. The Pippa Passes squad took advantage of those to plate two more scores. The hosts suddenly led 6-0.

The Trailblazers attempted to cut into the deficit in the third. In that at-bat, they used two fielders-choice -grounders to get within 6-2. However, they would get nothing more.

In the meantime, ALC would add a final score in the sixth when Noah Dingess (1B) singled in the insurance. The Caney Creek crew then slammed the door shut in the seventh from the mound to earn the satisfying victory and take their first conference game of the year.

Alice Lloyd produced 11 hits, with Cozart, Dingess, Jefferson, Ferrell, and Nicholas Collinsworth (RF) each gaining two. Ferrell had the four-bagger, while Collinsworth added a triple. Four hitters gained 1 RBI apiece.

Peyton Branham started on the mound and went the distance to pick up the win. He allowed just 5 hits, with 2 earned runs. He struck out 4 batters.

The Eagles took the hitting battle, 11-5, and were lower in errors, 3-2.
