Alice Lloyd Baseball Eagles Drop Decision to Bluefield College
Pippa Passes: On February 27th the Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team played host to the Bluefield College Rams in a single contest. The visitors jumped out to a quick start, and won 13-3 in seven innings. With the loss, the Eagles record drops to 7-7, while the victory lifts the Rams to 7-6.
In the very first inning, Bluefield would afflict major damage. A single and double would bring in a pair of runs (2-0), but the big blow was a three-run blast to left field. By the time the Rams finally recorded their third out, the scoreboard read 6-0.
Two innings later, BU would add to their lead, using two singles to plate 2 runs (8-0)
In their half of the third, ALC looked poised to have a big inning when they scored their first run on a walk (8-1) and reloaded the bases. Unfortunately, with two outs, the next batter stuck out to end the threat.
In the fourth, the Rams made that run back with a homer (9-1). Then, in the fifth, they repeated the process with another solo shot (10-1).
In the sixth, Bluefield opened with a double and walk. The next batter promptly, homered, and the score now read 13-1.
In the meantime, the Eagles had difficulties at the plate most of the way. They did manage to bring home another score in the sixth on a Dawson Beckett (1B) single, but two runners were left on base (13-2).
Finally, in their last-at-bat, Kyle Johnson (CF) doubled to deliver the Caney Creek run (13-3). Unfortunately, BC would slam the door shut on the final two batters to seal the victory for the Virginia club.
K. Johnson led his club with a pair of hits, including registering the Eagles only extra-base-hit of the night. Additionally, Joey Johnson (RF) and Beckett each drove in runs.
On the mound, Karsten Dixon started and had a tough day. He allowed 6 hits, 8 runs and 1 homer. Also seeing action were Gibbs Cochran, Cain Flynn and Jacob Ayers. The trio combined to allow 5 hits, 5 runs and 3 homeruns. A bright spot was JT Griswold, who tossed the final inning and whiffed all three batters he faced.
The victors won the hitting battle 11-5 and drove 5 balls over the fence. Both teams committed 1 error.
Alice Lloyd returns to action on Saturday, March 2nd, when they travel to Midway to face the central Kentucky Eagles in River States Conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
