ALC Eagles Baseball wins two over Maranatha Baptist University

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team returned home on Monday, March 18th, for a doubleheader with Maranatha Baptist University. The hosts would step up to earn the sweep over their counterparts from Wisconsin. This sets their record at 13-15 while the Sabercats fall to 0-11.

Game 1

Alice Lloyd-16; MBU-0

The Bluegrass boys blew the contest wide open to take game one.

In their very first at-bat, ALC stuck, utilizing a single from Aaron Rothballer (DH), plus a walk, to plate a pair of runs (2-0).

In the bottom of the third, singles from Wyatt Hobgood (C) and Kyle Johnson (CF) produced three more scores. Now the hosts led 5-0. That score would remain unchanged until the sixth when the Caney Creek clubbers exploded.

Alice Lloyd rolled off seven hits and eleven runs in the decisive inning. These included doubles from Rothballer and Eric Williams (1B) as well as singles from Hobgood, Caleb Justice (3B), Williams, Cory Jefferson (SS), and Cole Bishop (DH). After the third out was finally recorded, the scoreboard read 16-0, Eagles.

The Sabercats would then go down in order, in their last at-bat, to hand the shutout to the home squad.

The victors smacked 14 hits, highlighted by Rothballer's perfect 4-4, plus 2 each from Jefferson, Hobgood, Williams, and Johnson. Williams and Hobgood also provided 3 RBIs, while Johnson chipped in with a pair of his own.

On the mound, Tyler Brammer started and went the distance, tossing a 4-hit shutout. He whiffed 4 batters and only administered a single walk in a dominant performance.

The Eagles stole 3 bases, and Maranatha hurt themselves by committing 7 errors.

Game 2

Alice Lloyd-11; MBU-1

In this contest, the Eagles jumped out early to earn the sweep.

In the first, ALC received a quick gift from their guests as a pair of walks plus a wild pitch allowed a trio of runners to score (3-0).

In the very next inning, with two runners aboard, a Ryan Cozart (2B) single delivered both men (5-0).

The Pippa Passes posse would produce single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, another error from the Sabercats delivered the score, while in the fifth, the run was delivered via a big double from Jacob Lovell (C). The board now glared, 7-0.

Finally, in the sixth, the hosts put the game away. Grover Maynard (CF) got the ball rolling with a two-run double up the gap (9-0). Jacob Ayers then delivered another score when he lined a single down the line (10-0). Later, a long sacrifice fly delivered a final run to push the total to 11-0.

In their final at-bat, MBU would dent the scoreboard when a flyout delivered the runner home after leading off with a triple (11-1). However, that would be all the guests could produce as the next three batters went down in succession.

The Eagles registered 10 hits for the game, with Cozart leading the way with 3. Cozart, Jefferson, Lovell, and Maynard all registered 2 RBIs.

Karsten Dixon delivered the second impressive pitching performance of the day on the mound for the blue and white. He went the distance, giving up just 4 hits with 1 run. He also stuck out 6 batters.

The victors won in hits (10-4) and also had just 1 error compared to 3 by the Wisconsin crew.
