The Alice Lloyd College Eagles Baseball Team concluded their season by traveling to Oakland City, Indiana, to participate in the 2024 NCCAA Mideast Regional Tournament at Konkler Field. The Eagles played on May 8th and 9th in the double-elimination competition. The Eagles split with Asbury University and fell to Oakland City University.
Game 1
On Wednesday, May 8th, the Eagles started the tournament strong, defeating Asbury University in Game One of the Tournament. The Eagles held to a 4-1 lead by the end of the 5th inning and went on to a 5-3 win.
Dawson Beckett was the sole pitcher for the Eagles. Beckett faced 40 batters and threw 85 strikes on 131 pitches. In the 9 innings played, Beckett struck out 8 batters. The Eagles gave up only 10 hits in the contest.
Cole Bishop led the Eagles at batting. In 5 at-bats, Bishop came away with 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Bishop hit 2 home runs in the contest.
Game 2
After defeating Asbury University, the Eagles moved on to face off against the Oakland City Mighty Oaks. Oakland City jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning and added 3 more to their lead in the second, defeating the Eagles 10-3.
4 Eagles combined to pitch 6 innings. The Eagle pitchers threw 69 strikes and gave up only 1 home run and 13 hits in 125 pitches. Unfortunately, 10 runs scored, and the Eagles faced their first defeat of the double-elimination tournament.
Game 3
On May 9th, the Eagles looked to bounce back with another win against Asbury University. The Eagles held an early lead of 1-0 after the first inning but then fell behind 5-2 by the bottom of the 6th. Despite a big 7th inning with 4 runs, the Eagles couldn't overcome the deficit and fell to Asbury 8-6 when the 9th inning came to an end.
Gibbs Cochran and Chase Conley pitched for the Eagles, each throwing over 70 pitches in the contest. The two combined for 146 pitches, which resulted in 91 strikeouts, 14 hits, 8 runs, and 3 home runs.
Kyle Johnson led the Eagles hitters. In 5 at-bats, he managed 2 hits, including a home run, that led to 3 RBIs. The Eagles totaled 9 hits and 6 runs in 36 at-bats.
