Alice Lloyd Eagles Drop Decision at West Virginia Tech

Beckley, WV: The Alice Lloyd Eagles journeyed to the Mountaineer state on December 19th to face the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears in River States Conference action. The hot-shooting hosts broke open the game in the second half to earn the victory, 96-75.

The Eagles played well early as they jumped out to a quick 6-2 advantage at the 17:20 mark before the hosts came back to tie the score.  The visitors would then get 7 early points from junior forward Damon Tobler and lead 21-17 as the clock dipped below the midway point. 

However, over the next five minutes, Tech would go on a run. When Ashton Parker sank a layup at 4:06 to cap off a 19-5 burst, WVT led 36-26.

After a timeout, ALC would answer with a 13-3 spurt of their own to tie the game at 39-all. Tech sank two late free throws to give them a 41-39 advantage at intermission.

In the second half, the tide turned once again as the Golden Bears came out of the locker room with a 11-1 run to go up by twelve (52-40). From that point, the West Virginia club maintained their advantage with torrid shooting from both the field and foul line to take the win.

For Alice Lloyd (7-7; 2-3 RSC), they were paced in double-figures by sophomore guard Brady Nelson, who came off the bench to score 13 points. Tobler added 13 points. He also recorded 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Sophomore forward Blaine Keathley also hit double figures off the bench as he chipped in 10 points.

In addition, senior center Colyn Sturgill added 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks, senior guard Bryce Slone had 4 assists, and freshman guard Koji Anderson nabbed 3 steals.

ALC shot 43.1% (28-65) from the field and 38.8% (7-16) from behind the arc. They sank 70.6% (12-17) from the foul line and added 29 rebounds, 18 assists, and 9 steals.

For Tech (8-7; 3-2 RSC), Andrew Work led the way with 23 points. His club shot 56.4% (31-55) from the floor and 50% (8-16) from behind the arc. They hit 86.7% (26-30) from the foul line, and also added 38 rebounds, 23 assists, and 4 steals.

ALC returns to action for the last time in 2022 on Wednesday when they travel to face the Morehead State University Eagles at 12:00 noon in an exhibition contest.
