Alice Lloyd Eagles Depth Takes Out Saint Mary of the Woods

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd Eagles utilized their depth in a big way to take down the Saint Mary of the Woods Pomeroy's, 89-60. The River States Conference matchup was played Saturday, January 21st.

The Pomeroy's played well early. The visitors opened with an 11-6 run in the first four minutes of action and still led 19-16 with 10:22 remaining in the half. However, ALC responded in a huge way.

Over the next four minutes, ALC got major production from their bench. On defense, the squad turned up the heat and forced several miscues. On offense, sophomore guard Jacob Curry came in the game firing, as he drained three consecutive bombs to help fuel a 14-0 run. Suddenly, the Caney Creek crew led 30-19 with six minutes showing on the clock.

From there, the senior tandem of Will Philpot and Bryce Slone proceeded to score 12 consecutive Eagle points. That big effort enabled the Pippa Passes squad to enter the locker room at intermission, holding an impressive 44-26 advantage.

In the second half, Alice Lloyd came out determined to give no ground as they opened with a quick 7-0 burst to increase their lead (51-26).  That margin would reach its zenith of 40 points (79-39) following a driving layup from Curry. The Kentucky boys would see everyone perform well as they cruised the rest of the way for the dominant victory.

For Alice Lloyd (11-9; 5-5 RSC) they were paced in double-figures by Curry with 17 points. He sank 4-8 trifectas. Slone swished 4-9 bombs of his own to finish right behind with 16 points. Philpot added 14 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the foul line.

Senior center Colyn Sturgill grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots. Four different Eagles handed out three assists apiece, while junior guard Ben Soumahoro and freshman guard Koji Anderson each nabbed two steals.

ALC shot 47.1% (32-68) from the field and 42.9% (12-28) from behind the arc. They scored 81.3% (13-16) from the foul line and added 42 rebounds, 22 assists, and eight steals.

For Saint Mary (6-14; 1-9 RSC), Luke Brower led the Hoosier squad with 13 points. His club shot 41% (25-61) from the floor and 25% (3-12) from behind the arc. They hit 53.8% (7-13) from the foul line and also added 31 rebounds, 13 assists, and five steals.

The Eagles return to action next Tuesday, January 24th, in a huge conference showdown at Indiana University Southeast. Tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
