Alice Lloyd Eagles Fall at Indiana University Southeast

New Albany, IN: The Alice Lloyd Eagles reduced a twenty-one-point deficit to eight late in the second half before eventually dropping an 84-69 decision at the hands of the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers. The River States Conference matchup took place on Tuesday, January 24th, in the Hoosier state.

The Eagles fell behind early, but behind the marksmanship of senior guard Bryce Slone, rallied to take a 28-27 lead with just under six minutes remaining. However, IUS closed the half on a big 16-2 run and would hold a 43-30 advantage at intermission.

In the second half, the squads would exchange points until the Southeast duo of Glenn Hill and Christian Stewart began to give their squad some separation. At 6:01, the home team led 73-52.

From that juncture, ALC would make things interesting. Sparked by several big bombs from sophomore guard Jacob Curry, the Eagles would roll out a 17-4 run in just 3:30. Suddenly, with 2:32 remaining, the lead had shrunk to eight, at 77-69. Unfortunately, IU Southeast would milk the clock on their next possession before sticking a huge trifecta, which finally ended the threat.

For Alice Lloyd (11-10; 5-6 RSC), they would only place two in double figures. Slone sank four bombs on his way to finishing with 14 points, while Curry drilled three more and chipped in with 11. Junior forward Ben Soumahoro added 9 points and four assists, while senior forward Will Philpot led the way with six rebounds and two blocks.

ALC shot a solid 49.1% (27-55) from the field, including 47.4% (9-19) from behind the arc. They sank just 54.5% (6-11) from the foul line and added 31 rebounds, 16 assists, five steals, and four blocks.

For IUS (12-8; 7-4 RSC), Hill and Stewart both scored 15 points. Their club shot 49.2% (31-63) from the floor and 33% (9-27) from behind the arc. They hit 83.7% (13-15) from the foul line, and also added 34 rebounds, 18 assists, and 15 steals.

ALC returns to action on Saturday, January 28th, when they hit the road to face the Midway Eagles in conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
