Alice Lloyd Eagles Battle NCAA DI Tennessee Tech University in Exhibition Contest
Cookeville, TN: On Sunday, December 3rd, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles traveled to the Volunteer state to battle Tennessee Tech University. This would mark the end of a tough four-game week for the Kentucky boys.
Despite a gritty effort from the Caney Creek crew, the NCAA DI Golden Eagles, of the Ohio Valley Conference, would shoot well from the floor and take the game, 108-82.
In the opening half, Tech would come out with a hot hand, hitting five long bombs. This would lift them a 25-10 lead at 11:47.
Alice Lloyd would counter with 15 combined points from sophomore guard Koji Anderson and senior guard Jared Strickland. However, Tech would sink 58.8% overall in the stanza, and pull out to a 55-33 lead by intermission.
In the second half, ALC would see Anderson pump in 7 points in the first 4:30 to keep his squad in striking distance. The physical hosts would counter with a flurry of three-point buckets and maintain their advantage
To their credit, the Caney Creek club refused to roll over and battled intently. The Pippa Passes posse would actually execute well on offense and shoot over 50% the second half, including sinking 9 trifectas of their own. In fact, they would only be outscored 4 points in the second half
Unfortunately, the imposing size and strength of the Tech squad combined with their accurate shooting was just too much to overcome. However, the eastern Kentucky men gave their all as they represented themselves quite well.
For Alice Lloyd, they would be led by Anderson with 15 points. He sank 7-11 from the field Strickland hit 5-9 shots and added 11 points.
Other contributors include junior guard Jacob Curry and senior forward Blaine Keathley, who both swished 3 trifectas for 9 points apiece, and senior guard Ben Soumahoro and freshman guard Daniel Carmichael, who each chipped in with 8 more.
In addition, Soumahoro grabbed 4 boards, Curry and senior guard Brady Nelson both had 4 assists, and Robinson and freshman forward Jackson Tackett each had 2 steals.
The Pippa Passes club shot well, sinking 48.6% (35-72) from the field and a solid 40% (12-30) from beyond the arc. Incredibly, the Caney Creek crew did not attempt a single free throw as the home squad was only whistled for 3 fouls the entire game. The Eagles also snared 28 rebounds, handed off 16 assists, and got 8 steals.
Tech was led by David Early with 29 points. His squad shot an impressive 63.5% (40-63) from the field and 48.6% (18-37) from beyond the arc. They shot the only free throws on the day, finishing at 71.4% (10-14). In addition, they added 36 rebounds, handed off 31 assists and stole 4 balls.
The Eagles are off until December 9th when they travel to Pittsburgh to battle the River States Conferences only undefeated club, the Point Park Pioneers. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
