Alice Lloyd Eagles travel to Pittsburg, face undefeated Point Park University
Pittsburg, PA: On Saturday, December 9th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to face the River States Conferences top team, the undefeated Point Park University Pioneers. The home club would shoot well from the floor against the ice-cold Eagles, and take the game, 98-69.
In the opening half, ALC would hang tough early, thanks to 6 quick points from senior forward Ben Soumahoro. At 16:40, his club only trailed, 12-10.
PPU would then go on a 14-6 run to pull ahead by ten (26-16) with 11:24 remaining. However, the Eagles would answer with back-to-back trifectas, courtesy of senior guard Jared Strickland, to slice the deficit to four, 26-22, at the ten-minute mark.
The Pioneers would then turn to their duo of Jalen Stamps and Jo Valrie to roll off a run of their own. Leading 40-30 with just under five minutes remaining in the half, PPU closed with a 12-5 burst, and would take a 52-35 advantage into the dressing room at intermission.
In the second half, ALC would come out with a quick 7-2 run in just two minutes to get within striking distance, 55-42. Unfortunately, the Pittsburg club would hit back with a decisive 18-5 blitz over the next five minutes to race out to a 73-47 cushion. From there, the hosts would maintain control until the final buzzer sounded as the Eagles were never able to find their shooting eye.
For Alice Lloyd (5-4; 0-3 RSC), they would be led by Strickland and Soumahoro with 12 and 10 points respectively. However, they were the only players to reach double digits.
