Pippa Passes, KY: On November 8th, the Alice Lloyd Eagles returned home for game 1 of the Irma Stepp Memorial Classic, where they faced the Crown College Crusaders (TN). The Eagles would use their impressive depth and unselfish play to take a huge 116-53 victory.
In the opening stanza, the Eagles came out ready for action, using their high-octane offense and stifling defense to blow out to a big lead. All fifteen players got in on the action, and after twenty minutes of play, ALC led 56-23.
In the second half, the Pippa Passes fans saw their team continue to substitute on a regular basis, and use their fast break to add 60 more points to their tally. When the buzzer sounded to end the contest, the Eagles would walk away with an impressive 63-point victory.
For Alice Lloyd (3-0), they were led on the night by sophomore guard Landon Napier who pumped in 20 points, sinking 4-7 trifectas. He added 5 boards. He was followed by senior guard Jared Strickland who sank 6-10 shots for 14 points. He added 3 steals.
Senior guard Brady Nelson and junior guard Alex Rasnick combined to sink 9-14 shots and each added 10 points to the tally. In addition, junior guard Wilgus Tolson led the club with 6 assists, while senior forward Ben Soumahoro, senior guard Brady Nelson, and senior guard Jacob Curry all handed off 5 assists. Sophomore forward Naz Welch chipped in with 8 points and a team-high 9 rebounds.
On the day, the Caney Creek crew finished at 56.8% (48-85) from the field, including 37.8% (14-37) from beyond the arc. They also hit 87.5% (7-8) from the charity stripe, attacked the glass with 50 rebounds, handed out an eye-opening 35 assists and swiped 10 steals. They recorded 32 deflections.
CC (2-1) was led by Jordan Mills with 21 points. His squad shot 25.6% (21-82) from the field, 17.6% (6-34) from beyond the arc and 62.5% (5-8) from the foul line. Additionally, they snared 25 rebounds, handed off 6 assists and stole 5 balls.
