Alice Lloyd Eagles Women and Men’s Golf participates in UPike Spring Invite

Compton wins men's event by one stroke/men set team record

Prestonsburg, KY: On April 1st, the Alice Lloyd College golf teams traveled to Stonecrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to participate in the University of Pikeville Spring Invite. The match was originally scheduled for two days, but the second day was canceled due to inclement weather conditions.

 Nine men's and four women's squads took to the links for the event, and 27 women and 53 men signed up for the event. After the last shot had been fired, the ladies would finish in fourth place while the men would earn a fifth-place finish.

In the women's competition, ALC had three finishers. They were led by Haleigh Jefferson, who would fire a 92 to finish at +20. This was her lowest round of the year, placing her in a tie for 18th.

Hailey Dye would shoot a 118, while Mackenzie Methax would finish her first meet with a total of 210.

In the men's event, ALC earned a 5th place finish, as they set the school record for the lowest round by a team, firing a 301. This also set the school record for lowest strokes below par.

Individually, the Eagles were led by Mason Compton, who played exceptional golf. He would fire a personal-best round of 68, garnering the first-place trophy for his efforts, and finish one stroke ahead of Indiana East's Sam Firebaugh. In addition, with the win, he became the third Eagle golfer in school history to win a tournament individually.

He was followed by an impressive performance from Dillion Fields, who shot a career-low 73 and earned a big 7th-place finish. Jason Price also broke 80, displaying consistent golf the entire way to finish with a 78.

Caleb Leonard and Chase Petry also battled well, finishing the event with an 82 and 83 score, respectively.

The ALC golf teams hope to keep their positive momentum going as they report back to action next Monday and Tuesday in the 2024 Kentucky Christian University Invite,
