Alice Lloyd Soccer Battles UC Harrodsburg to 1-1 Tie
Pippa Passes, KY: On September 20th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles faced the University of Campbellsville-Harrodsburg Pioneers in a home matchup. In a contest that saw an even battle for 90 minutes, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Facing a club that defeated the Eagles 4-0 just two weeks earlier, ALC Coach Juan Lander's squad came ready to turn the tide. The first half saw the Caney Creek crew get off 11 shots compared to 5 for the visitors. However, due to stingy defense, the game would remain scoreless at intermission.
In the second half, everything remained the same until 58:17, when Conner Race gave the visiting Pioneers the lead with a goal (1-0).
Despite several good shots on goal, Alice Lloyd was never able to connect. Happily, for the home fans, this would soon change. At the 70:26 mark, the Pippa Passes boys worked the ball downfield. Dylan Moore would gain the advantage and make a nice pass to teammate Tyler Brammer whose kick sailed past the outstretched hands of the CH goalie and found the net. The score now read 1-1, with just under twenty minutes remaining.
The Eagles would get another good shot on goal soon after, but the ball ricochet off the side pole and bounced off. The match would soon end with the score dead even.
On the day, Harrodsburg fired 14 shots on goal compared to the Eagles' 17. CH had 9 attempts in the second half compared to ALC's 6. Both squads attempted 4 corner kicks.
ALC goalie Joseph Westphal was steady once again behind the net as he allowed only one score while registering 6 saves. Overall, the entire squad gave an impressive effort in a game dominated by defense. Brammer had the big goal, with Moore gaining the assist.
The Eagles return to action on Monday, September 26th, when they travel to Northern Kentucky University to face Cincinnati Clermont at 2:00 pm.
