Alice Lloyd Soccer Opens 2023 Season at KCU

Grayson, KY: On September 7th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles opened the 2023 soccer campaign by facing the homestanding Kentucky Christian Knights (1-2-1). In a battle that went down to the wire, the hosts prevailed 3-2.

ALC Coach Juan Lander's club allowed a KCU goal at 15:37 of the first half. However, the score would remain 1-0 until the buzzer sounded for intermission, as neither defense would bend.

In the second half, the Knights scored a goal just seven seconds in to go ahead 2-0. Things would remain unchanged until the momentum suddenly switched in favor of the Caney Creek crew.

At 67:50, Eagle Jestin Barker went solo by taking the ball, advancing downfield, and driving it through the net for a score to reduce the deficit to one (2-1).

Then just eighteen seconds later, after ALC won the faceoff, ALC's Tyler Brammer lined a shot past the outstretched arms of the Kentucky Christian goalie for pay dirt. Just like that, at 68:08, the contest was tied at 2-2.

At that critical point in the game, the outcome was up in the air. Then, at 79:15, the home club managed to kick a huge goal to place them back on top at 3-2.

Alice Lloyd battled to the very end but was not able to produce a shot that would tie the game before the final horn sounded.

On the day, the hosts fired 11 shots compared to the Eagles 9. Pippa Passes goalie Joseph Westphal registered 3 saves, while Kentucky Christian stopped 3 Eagle attempts. Both squads had 3 shots on goal, and ALC committed 9 fouls compared to the Knights 13.

The Eagles (0-1) return to action on Tuesday, September 12th, when they travel to Appalachian Bible College to face the Warriors. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
