Alice Lloyd Eagles Soccer travels to Georgia
Toccoa Falls, GA: On October 11th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles soccer squad traveled to Toccoa Falls, Georgia, for a match against the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles (5-7). In a game where the visitors uncharacteristically could never get their offense going, the hosts would hold on for the 2-0 victory.
In the first half, defense was the name of the game, as neither club was able to dent the scoreboard. Things would remain scoreless until 30:00 when Toccoa managed to slice a shot into the net. Their 1-0 lead would hold until intermission.
In the second half, the Kentucky squad finally got a chance to tie the game, but Jestin Barkers's attempt sailed wide.
Impressively, both defenses remained rock-steady as the clock entered the 70th minute with nothing changed. Unfortunately, at that juncture, TF just managed to get a goal into the net, giving the Georgia club a critical 2-0 advantage.
From there, scoring would remain impossible to come by as ALC could never manage to get a good look at the net. Eventually, the final buzzer sounded with the same 2-0 score favoring the hometown squad.
On the day, the victors fired 13 shots, compared to Alice Lloyd, who only managed Barker's single attempt.
Pippa Passes goalie Joseph Westphal was solid, registering 11 saves and only allowing a pair of goals. However, on this day, the Eagle offense was just not able to mount any sort of comeback.
ALC (4-7-1) returns to action on Tuesday, October 15th, when it hosts Campbellsville Harrodsburg in a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
