Alice Lloyd Eagles Soccer holds on to defeat Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg, 2-1
Pippa Passes, KY: On October 15th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles hosted the Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg Pioneers in soccer action. In a match played on a cold rainy day, the hosts pulled out a tough 2-1 win.
The contest was a defensive battle as neither team could score in the cold conditions. Finally, at 25:23 ALC broke through when Dylan Moore went solo and laced a kick past the goalie to give his club a 1-0 lead. That score would remain unchanged until the horn sounded for intermission.
In the second half, the Pioneers would tie the score when they managed to boot a successful goal at 58:12. Now the scoreboard was all tied at 1-1.
As the clock went past the seventieth minute, neither team could break the tie. However, at 71:38, Pippa Passes player Bryan Amadore would come through with a clutch kick that found paydirt. This lifted the Eagles to a 2-1 advantage. Now, the question would be could they hold on to that cushion.
Happily for the home fans, the answer was yes as the Eagle defense slammed the door shut and preserved their lead until the game-ending buzzer sounded to seal the victory.
On the day, the victors fired 13 shots-on-goal compared to Campbellsvilles 6. The Eagles also led in corner kicks, 5-4 and committed less fouls, 7-5.
Pippa Passes goalie Joseph Westphal was solid as he went the distance, allowing just 1 goal with 6 saves.
ALC (5-6-1) returns to action on October 24th, when they return home to face Toccoa Falls, Georgia, in a 7:00pm start time.
