
Alice Lloyd Eagles Track and Field Competes in Berea Mountaineer Open
Berea, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles and Eagles Outdoor Track and Field squad traveled to central Kentucky on March 25th to participate in the Berea Mountaineer Open, hosted by NCAA DIII opponent, Berea College.
Despite a windy start to the competition, 8 women's and 12 men's squads from various affiliations were determined to give their best effort.
In women's action, the Lady Eagles had four individuals earn points for the club as they finished in 6th position with 28 total. Hurdler Sarah Cecil was third in the 100M hurdles (16.77) to earn 6 points. She also came in 3rd in the 400M hurdles (1.16) to capture 6 more. This qualifies her for the NCCAA Track and Field Nationals, which will be held later this semester.
Riley Scheck finished 3rd in the Javelin throw. Her toss of 31.86M earned her a 2nd Place finish and 6 points for the squad. Out of 12 participants, she was one of only three ladies to exceed 30M. Taylor Caldwell finished 6th in both the Discus throw (26.92M) and the Shot Put (8.22M), which was worth 3 points apiece. She also earned 2 points for her 7th Place finish in the Javelin (21.55M). In addition, Kaitlynn Ratliff also earned 2 points with her 7th Place finish in the 5000M run
On the men's side of things, the Eagles finished with 51 points, which earned them 5th Place. Dakota Owens came up huge with 20 total points. He earned a 1st Place finish in the 400M dash, and his time of 52:33 was good for 10 points. Next, Owens finished 2nd in the 200M dash, as his time of 20.98 placed him 2nd, and earned 8 points. Finally, in the 100M dash. His time of 10:47 was worth 2pts. He has also surpassed the needed standard and automatically qualifies for both the NAIA and the NCCAA Track and Field Nationals.
Nikolas Chasteen earned points in three events as well. He finished 3rd in his first-ever javelin throw, surprising everyone with a toss of 39:56M, and 6 points, 4th in the 200M dash, crossing the line in 21:56, to grab 5 points, and also pulled out an 8th Place finish in the 100M dash for 1 point. He has also surpassed the needed standard and automatically qualifies for both the NAIA and the NCCAA Track and Field Nationals.
Kenny Wilburn also came through in the 400M dash as his time of 53:53 placed him 2nd and earned 8 points. In the high jump, Gerald Bentley soared to a height of 1.80M to earn 4th Place and 5 team points. Darren Griffith finished 6th in the Javelin with a toss of 34:94. That was worth 3 Points. Finally, in the 400M Hurdles, Andre Harless earned 2 points for the Eagles, as his 1:06.93 run gave him a 7th Place finish, while Gerald Estep earned 1 point for his 7th Place finish in 1:16.7.
