Alice Lloyd Eagles Track and Field Competes in Gordon Bocock Invitational
Williamsburg, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles and Eagles Outdoor Track and Field squads traveled to the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky on April 7th/8th to participate in the challenging Gordon Bocock Open.
Despite a chilly start to the competition, 18 women's and 22 men's squads, comprised of NCAA DII, NCCAA DIII, NAIA, and NCCAA affiliations, were motivated to give their best effort, against a solid field.
In women's action, the Lady Eagles finished in eleventh place, as they earned 15 team points. Two individuals accounted for the scores.
Sarah Cecil was the big winner of the day. In the 400m hurdles, she finished fourth, and her time of 1:15 earned the squad six nice points. Cecil also came in fourth in the 100m hurdles, as her time of 17.8 allowed the club to capture five more needed points.
In the javelin throw, Riley Scheck finished fifth out of twenty-four total participants. Her heave of 31.84m earned the final four points for the squad.
On the men's side of things, the Eagles finished with 15 points, which earned them a twelfth place. Three individuals accounted for the scores.
Dakota Owens had the performance of the day, as he earned an impressive second-place finish out of twenty-six competitors in the 400m dash. His eye-opening time of 49:19 was good for eight quality points. Attentionally, Owens's time was less than two seconds off the meet record, and it also set a new ALC record for the event.
In the javelin throw, Nikolas Chasteen finished fourth out of twenty-three competitors with a solid toss of 44.68M. This was worth five more points for the club.
Finally, in the high jump, Gerald Bentley soared to a height of 1.80M to earn seventh place and gain his club's two final team points.
