Alice Lloyd Eagles Track and Field Competes in Challenging Centre College Twilight
Danville, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles and Eagles Outdoor Track and Field squad traveled to central Kentucky on April 14th to participate in the ultra-competitive Centre College Twilight, hosted by NCAA DIII opponent, Centre College.
A total of 17 schools from NCAA DI, NCAA DII, NCAA DIII, and NAIA were represented in the competition.
In women's action, the Lady Eagles accumulated 11 team points and had two individuals account for these.
They were sparked on the day by Riley Scheck. Out of twenty-one ladies who competed, Schreck unleashed a toss of 105 ft, which earned her a first-place finish. Her massive toss exceeded her closest competitor by almost ten feet. This earned 10 points for the squad.
Hurdler Sarah Cecil was eighth out of twenty-one individuals in the 100m hurdles (17.84) to earn 1 point. She also just missed earning points in the 400m hurdles, as her time of 1:15 placed her tenth.
On the men's side of things, the Eagles finished with 17 points and had four individuals accumulate for those.
Dakota Owens came up huge with 13 total points. In the 200m dash, his time of 22.22 placed him second out of thirty-six competitors and earned 8 points. In the 100m dash, his time of 11.12 earned him fourth place out of thirty-seven competitors and was worth 5pts.
Nikolas Chasteen earned points in two events as well. In the 100m dash, he pulled out a seventh-place finish, as his time of 11.22 was good for two points. Additionally, he finished eighth in the javelin throw out of twenty-eight participants, with a toss of 124ft, 8in. This gained another point.
In the high jump, with twenty participants, Gerald Bentley cleared a height of 5'10 to earn eighth place, and 1 team point.
The squad will next participate in the River States Conference Track and Field Tournament in Rio Grande, Ohio, on April 28th/29th.
