
Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles Softball Earns Sweep
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team hosted the Miami-Hamilton Harriers in a doubleheader on February 26th. The Lady Eagles put together two solid games to earn the sweep and up their record to 4-4.
February 26th
GAME 1
Alice Lloyd-4; MH-0
The Lady Eagles got an impressive pitching performance to gain the shutout win.
Things started slow as the pitching dominated the first three innings. However, ALC broke through in the third when they plated a run (1-0) on an RBI double from Aspyn Branham(DP).
In the fifth ALC struck again when Lyndsey Adkins (1B) connected for a powerful homerun (3-0).
In the next inning, Adkins struck again when she singled to plate another score (4-0).
In the meantime, the Pippa Passes crew send Maleigh Mcdanielto the mound and she definitely delivered a big performance. She went the distance, throwing a 1 hit shutout. She whiffed 7 batters and walked 0 in a dominate performance.
At the plate, Adkins went 2-3 and drove in 3 RBI's. Mckenzie Orfield (3B) also delivered 2 hits
The victors recorded 6 hits on the day and played error-free ball.
GAME 2
Alice Lloyd- 8, MH- 4
ALC rebounded from a 4-0 deficit to win going away.
The Lady Harriers jumped out quickly with 1 run in the opening inning (1-0). They then inflicted more damage in the second with a big 3 run inning. Suddenly, the Ohio club led 4-0.
In the bottom half of the inning, two Lady Eagle runs scored to whittle the lead in half (4-2). Happily, they were just warming up.
Eagle bats would catch fire once more in the fourth when several big hits helped produce a huge 4 run windfall. Suddenly, the Caney Creek clubbers led 6-4.
The home fans would then witness their team add insurance runs in both the fifth and sixth (8-4) to add more separation.
Strong pitching would then take over and slam the door shut for ALC as they would gift the nice sweep to the Pippa Passes faithful.
For the Eagles, seven players had hits. They were led by Ellie Keene (C) who went 3-4 with a double. Orfield stroked a triple while Alexis Morris (2B), Rachel Rife (LF) and Branham all smacked doubles. Morris and Rife each registered 2 RBI's.
On the mound, Orfield started and lasted two innings. She gave up 4 hits and 4 runs with 1 K. Baylee Cox came on in relief and threw four quality innings to earn the victory. She gave up only 2 hits and whiffed 3 batters. Haley Howell came in the final inning and refused to bend, allowing 0 hits to preserve the day.
Alice Lloyd won the hitting battle 8-4, and played error-free ballfor the second consecutive game.
