Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles Softball Hosts Midway University in Conference Doubleheader

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles (8-22; 3-15 RSC) returned home on March 27th for a doubleheader with the River States Conference's second place team, the Midway University Eagles (17-11; 10-4 RSC). For the day, the hosts would hang tough, but eventually drop both.

April 12th

GAME ONE

Midway-5; Alice Lloyd-0

The central Kentucky club took the series opener by tossing a 1-hitter.

In the second inning, MU struck with a score on a single (1-0). A groundout in the fourth and a pop fly in the sixth brought the same results (3-0).

In the seventh, the visitors would add two important insurance runs. They would achieve this on a fielder's choice and an error (5-0).

Unfortunately, ALC could never get anything going as the Eagle bats were kept in check. Chloe Taylor's (SS) single was the only hit they could muster for the entire contest.

On the mound, Maleigh Mcdaniel took the loss despite pitching well. She went 6.2 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs with 4 strike outs. Haley Howell came in to retire the final batter.

Midway won the hitting battle, 7-1, but ALC did themselves no favors with 5 crucial errors.

GAME TWO

Midway-6; Alice Lloyd-1

The Pippa Passes ladies held their foes to just six hits, but dropped the second contest to hand Midway the sweep.

MC started well, as they used two singles to plate a trio of scores (3-0).

The hosts answer back in the bottom of the first as a Lyndsey Adkins single to left dented the scoreboard (3-1). However, she was left stranded on base.

The visitors earned that run right back one inning later with another single (4-1) before they utilized yet another single, and long pop fly in the third to plate two more runners (6-0). However, the scoring would cease from that point.

In the final four innings, pitching on both ends was strong. Unfortunately, the Caney Creek crew needed a big hit to start their rally, and they just could not deliver it at an opportune time.

For ALC, Mcdaniel (SS) had two hits while Adkins had the lone RBI.

Pitcher Bailey Cox started on the mound and took the loss. She went 2.2 innings, and gave up 5 hits, and 6 earned runs. She whiffed 1 batter. Kursten Napier and Mckenzie Orfieldrelieved the final 4.2 innings and combined to give up just 1 hit and 1 walk with 0 runs.

ALC lost the hitting battle 6-4, and committed no errors compared to the Midway's 1.
