Beckley, WV: On March 25th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team journeyed to the Mountaineer State to face the West Virginia Tech University Golden Bears in a twin bill. The Lady Eagles battled furiously and would earn the split on the day. Alice Lloyd's record now sits at 13-15 (2-10 RSC), while WVT moves to 9-14 (5-7 RSC).

ALC jumped ahead early but fell at the very end.

In the opening inning, the blue and white would dent the scoreboard when Maleigh McDaniel (P) lined a single to drive in a teammate (1-0).

Tech would tie the game in the bottom of the inning when a bunt drove in the runner from third base (1-1).

In the third, ALC's Chloe Taylor (2B) walked, then later advanced to third. When Ellie King (C) then rapped a single, her club would take a 2-1 advantage.

The Caney Creek crew then added to their lead in the fourth. Aspyn Branham started things when she was hit by a pitch. Then, pinch runner Alexandrea Hall eventually advanced to third. When the hosts made an errant throw, Hall sprinted home to put her team up 3-1.

In the bottom of that inning, WV Tech smacked a solo shot to left field to get within a single run, 3-2.

Later, in the bottom of inning six, the Mountaineers would place a run on second with one away. The next batter promptly drove the ball over the right field fence to knot the score at 3-3. Then, the very next batter drove a fastball over the left field fence to suddenly push her team in front, 5-3.

Now, down to their last chance, ALC's Carlee Muncy (1B) would single and later move to second with two outs. Unfortunately, the next batter would ground out to end the contest.

For the Lady Eagles, Mckenzie Orfield (SS), McDaniel, King, Muncy, and Taylor each had a single while McDaniel and King drove in 1 run apiece.

McDaniel started and took the tough loss on the mound. She allowed just 5 hits and 5 earned runs with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

Both squads had 5 hits, and Tech committed the game's lone error. The difference was that WVT smacked a trio of home runs.

ALC pitcher Kirsten Vice tossed a four-hit shutout to lead her club to the victory.

The pitching was solid for both clubs until the third inning when ALC wielded the big bats. In that inning, McDaniel (SS) got the ball rolling when she drove a single to bring Orfield (DP) home (1-0). Next, Rylee Cox bopped a single to bring in a pair of runners (3-0). Finally, an error delivered the fourth run of the inning (4-0).

Then, in the fourth, ALC would do even better. McDaniel singled in a score (5-0), and was followed by a Muncy sacrifice (6-0). Rachel Rife (LF) then drove in a pair of runs with a single down the line (8-0). Finally, a stolen base produced the fifth run of the inning. The Bluegrass squad now led 9-0.

The final run scored in the Eagle fifth when McDaniel singled to bring in another runner (10-0).

For the Eagles, McDaniel was on fire as she went 4-4 with 3 RBIs. Orfield added 2 hits, while Cox and Rife both had 2 RBI's.

On the mound, Vice was impressive. The freshman tossed a 4-hit shutout. She struck out 1 and walked 0.

The Bluegrass ladies would also win the hitting battle 9-4 and play error-free ball while Tech committed 5 errors.
