Alice Lloyd softball plays doubleheader at Point Park University

Pittsburgh, PA: On April 14th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team traveled to Pennsylvania to battle the Point Park Pioneers in a doubleheader. PPU led the entire way to take the opener before coming back late to take the nightcap.

ALC's record now sits at 14-24 (3-19 RSC) while PPU moves to 15-17 (9-12 RSC).

Game 1

Alice Lloyd-1; PPU-5

The hosts opened the scoring right out of the gate by utilizing a double and single to plate a pair of runs (2-0).

In the ALC third, the Bluegrass ladies sliced the deficit in half when Audrey Mowell (RF) led off with a single, then eventually scored on a PPU error (2-1).

Point Park would slowly pull away, using a single in the third, single in the fourth and error in the fifth to gain a score in each inning. They would now lead 5-1 and make that score stand up until the final out.

For the day, besides Mowell, Ellie Keene (C) and Rylee Cox also added singles. Unfortunately, these would be the only hits their squad could muster.

On the mound, Maleigh McDaniel suffered the loss. In 6 innings of work, she gave up 10 hits but just 2 earned runs with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

The eastern Kentucky Eagles were outhit 10-3 but hurt themselves by committing 4 errors.

Game 2

Alice Lloyd-4; MU-5

The Pippa Passes club would strike out of the gate when Maleigh McDaniel (SS) uncorked a double to open the scoring, 1-0. This would hold up most of the way.

ALC would remain in control until the bottom of the sixth as their pitching and defense was solid. Unfortunately, the momentum quickly changed.

In the crucial sixth, the Pittsburg club placed a runner on first with a one-out single. The next batter promptly unloaded on a fast ball and drove it over the left field fence. Just like that, the big-city club led 2-1.

Now, down to their last chance in the seventh, the Lady Eagles went down in order to hand the Pioneers the comeback win.

For the ALC Eagles, Keene would lead her club with a pair of hits, while McDaniel produced an RBI.

On the mound for ALC, Kirsten Vice pitched well but suffered the difficult loss. She went the distance, giving up 7 hits, but only 2 earned runs.

The Indiana club would win the hitting battle 7-6, and both clubs committed 2 errors.
