Game 1
Alice Lloyd-10: UC-2
The visitors took an early lead before the home club exploded to take the opening game.
Union jumped ahead quickly with a 2-run triple in the first (2-0). However, ALC delivered a big 5-spot in the second, fueled by a flurry of five singles (5-2).
Then, in the third, doubles from Arin Rife (DP) and Katie Deeds (RF) plated a trio of scores. Now, the Lady Eagles led 8-2. The hosts would then evoke the mercy rule in the fifth when singles from Maleigh McDaniel (P) and A. Rife scored a pair of runners and ended the festivities.
At the plate, ALC saw A. Rife go for a perfect 4-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs. Her sister Rachel Rife (LF) was joined by McDaniel and Lauren Morris (SS) in the 2 hit club. R. Rife, Mckenzie Orfield (3B), and Morris each added 2 RBIs.
McDaniel earned the complete-game pitching victory, allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts in a commanding performance.
The Eagles earned the most hits, 14-5, and neither club committed an error.
GAME 2
Alice Lloyd- 7; UC-0
Arin Rife put on a clinic, both at the plate and on the mound, to lead ALC to the impressive sweep.
In the very first inning, after an R. Rife single, walk, and hit-batter loaded the bases, A. Rife (P) swiftly cleared them with a blast over the left field fence to make the score 4-0.
In the meantime, A. Rife was on fire from the mound, striking out 3,2,2,2, and 3 batters through five innings.
Then in the bottom of the fifth, after McDaniel led off with a single, A. Rife promptly smashed a fast ball over the center field wall to make the score 6-0.
Later, in the sixth, after 3 consecutive groundouts put Union down in order, Alice Lloyd's Morris (C) singled, then raced home on a Kirsten Vice (DP) double. ALC now led 7-0.
In the Bulldog's final at-bat, the first two batters lined out. A. Rife then fittingly whiffed the last batter to seal the deal on an incredible day of work.
At the plate, A. Rife was a one-woman show, going 2-3 at the plate with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs. Morris also rapped a pair of hits.
A. Rife earned the pitching victory, tossing a 2-hit shutout from the mound while whiffing 13 batters in an overpowering performance.
The blue and white won the hitting war, 8-2, and played error-free ball once more.
