March 10th

Game 1

Alice Lloyd-5:  KCU

The Pippa Passes posse took the hitting battle, but a pair of errors would prove costly.

The visitors started well when Rachel Rife (LF) opened play with a single , then raced home, courtesy of a double by Mckenzie Orfield (3B) to jump ahead 1-0.

In the Knight second, a big triple and Eagle error gave the hosts a 3-1 advantage. The status-quo remained the same until the fifth.

In inning five, KCU placed a runner on base. and brought her home on a bunt (4-1). Then, they placed another runner on first. She proceeded to steal second, steal third, and then race home on a wild pitch. This insurance run gave Kentucky Christian a 5-1 lead.

In their final at-bat, the Lady Eagles saw R. Rife open with a single, but that was as far as she would advance, as the hosts held on until the final out was recorded.

At the plate, ALC saw R. Rife knock 2 hits and Orfield produce the lone RBI.

On the mound, Maleigh McDaniel took the hard-luck loss, allowing only 2 unearned runs on 4 hits with 3 stikeouts. Kirsten Vice tossed the final inning, and got the side out in order.

The Eagles fell, despite outhitting their opponent, 5-4. However, a pair of errors proved detrimental to the outcome.

GAME 2

Alice Lloyd- 4; KCU-2

The Caney Creek clubbers delivered a nice performance, using small-ball to take the final contest and leave with a split.

In the second inning, after Ellie Keene (CF) reached on a single, a wild-pitch and pair of bunts delivered her home, 1-0.

Then in Alice Lloyd's next at-bat, Vice (DP) led off with a single. Next, a bunt, error, and second bunt brought her racing home. Now the Pippa Passes posse led 2-0.

Later, in the sixth, ALC came through once more. With two outs, Arin Rife (P) reached on an error. Then, Keene singled and stole second to put runners on second and third. Finally, Lauren Morris (C) strolled to the plate and came through with a well-placed single to score both runners. Now, the Caney Creek crew led 4-0.

In the meantime, A. Rife was humming along through six innings, only allowing a pair of singles to the Knights through that point.

In the final inning, after the visitors went down in order, KCU tried to rally. They would open by drawing a walk, then get the only extra-base hit of the game by smacking a double to plate a score (4-1). Next, with two outs, a single drove in another run to set the score 4-2. However, although she was getting tired from her tough performance, A. Rife dug deep and induced a game-ending ground ball to chalk up the victory in the Lady Eagles column.

At the plate, A. Rife, Keene, Morris, and Vice each delivered singles while Morris (2) led in RBIs.

A. Rife earned the pitching victory, tossing a 4-hitter. She gave up just 2 runs and whiffed 5 batters in another solid performance.

Both squads registered 4 hits. However, KCU committed the only 3 errors of the day, and they proved helpful to the win.
