Alice Lloyd Softball honors seniors, take series over Miami- Hamilton, 3-1

 

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles (19-13) returned to action on April 12th-13h as they played host to Miami-Hamilton in a four-game series that marked senior day. Seniors Aspen Branham, Ellie Hunt, Ellie Keene, Maleigh McDaniel, Audrey Mowell, Carly Muncy, and Philly Tolentino, as well as Lauren Morris, were honored for their contributions to the program. After dropping the opener, the hosts regrouped to take the final three contests.

April 12th

Game 1

Alice Lloyd-3: MH-5

The Lady Eagles fell in the final innings to drop the opener.

In the first inning, MH took advantage of miscues from the home squad to plate a pair of scores (2-0). ALC would respond in their bottom-half as they used an error from the Ohio club, plus a single from Ellie Keene (C), to knot the score at 2-2.

In the second, a fielder's choice enabled the visitors to pull back ahead, 3-2. The score than remained the same until the sixth when a Miami single added to their advantage (4-2).

In their half of the inning, Alice Lloyd chipped into the deficit when Keene hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-3. However, the potential tying run was thrown out at home plate to end the inning.

Int the seventh, Hamilton got an important single to add an insurance run. Now trailing 5-3, the home squad then went down to end the contest.

 At the plate, ALC saw Rachel Rife (LF) knock a pair of singles, while McDaniel (P) had a double. Keene's 2 RBIs led in that department.

 McDaniel suffered the loss on the mound. In seven innings, she allowed 8 hits with 3 earned runs with 6 strikeouts.

The Eagles were outhit, 8-7, and 3 errors proved detrimental to their hopes.

GAME 2

Alice Lloyd- 9; MH-1

The Lady Eagles jumped ahead quickly and won going away.

In the first inning, the Pippa Passes posse took command, using several walks and a fielder's choice to gain a 3-0 lead. (3-0). MH gained one of those back in the fourth on a single only to commit an error and wild pitch to deliver the Bluegrass club a pair of runs (5-1).

In the fifth, the blue and white would take advantage of several Hamilton walks, a single from Arin Rife (P) and a wild pitch and error from the Ohio team to send 4 runners across the plate and end the contest..

At the plate, R. Rife provided 2 hits while her sister A. Rife led the way with 2 RBIs.

A. Rife earned the pitching victory. In five innings, she gave up only 1 earned run on 1 hit while striking out 5 batters. 

The Eagles won the hitting war, 8-1, and committed 0 errors.

 

April 13th

GAME 3

Alice Lloyd- 4; MH-3

The Lady Eagles overcame a 3-run deficit to win the third game.

In the second inning, the guests used a single, double and Eagle error to leap ahead 3-0. ALC gained a score in the second, delivered by a Muncy (1B) single (3-1).

In the next inning, McDaniel singled herself to slice the deficit to 3-2. Then in the fourth, R. Rife singled and Mckenzie Orfield (3B) smacked a double to put the Caney Creek crew ahead, 4-3.

After the first inning, McDaniel controlled the game from the mound as she slammed the door shut to seal the nice win.

At the plate, R. Rife and Keene both provided 2 hits while McDaniel, R. Rife, Muncy, and Orfield handed out the RBIs.

McDaniel earned the pitching victory. In seven innings, she gave up 4 hits and 3 earned runs, but those gave in the beginning of the game. She struck out 3 batters. 

The Eagles won the hitting war, 8-4, but did commit 2 errors.

 

GAME 4

Alice Lloyd- 11; MH-3

The final game saw the Lady Eagles explode out of the gate, with an impressive showing.

Miami scored first, as a groundball plated a score, 1-0. ALC quickly took control afterwards.

In the second inning, the hosts used 5 singles, plus a Orfield double, to score 9 huge runs, Alice Lloyd quickly led, 9-1.

In the next inning, Hamilton did chip into the lead, scoring a pair of runs on 2 singles, 9-3. However, ALC added another 2 runs to slam the door shut and take the series, 3-1.

At the plate, McDaniel went 3-3 while Morris (C) added 2 hits. McDaniel and Orfield brought home 3 and 2 RBIs respectively.

A Rife earned the pitching victory. In four innings, she gave up 5 hits and 1 earned run, with 4K's. Kinna Justice relieved in the fifth and retired the Ohio crew in order.

The Eagles won the hitting war, 11-5, and had fewer errors (3-1).
