
Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Use Steller Defensive Performance to Take Out Carolina University
Winston Salem, NC: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles, journeyed to the Tar Heel state to face the home-standing Carolina University Bruins on November 5th. Riding an impressive defensive display, ALC emerged victorious, 51-39.
In the opening period, ALC managed 12 points, put held the hosts to only 8, and led 12-8 after ten minutes of action.
In the second quarter, the hosts would respond by taking the period, 14-12. Despite this, ALC led 24-22 at intermission.
As the third period began, the Lady Eagles would tighten up once more. Freshman guard Shelby Stewart would stick a few big shots and help her club take the period 13-8. The Pippa Passes girls led 37-30 after thirty minutes.
In the final stanza, the Caney Creek crew would maintain their sticky defense to take the quarter, 15-9. The total team effort would enable the Kentucky girls to head home with a nice 12-point victory.
For Alice Lloyd (3-0), Stewart would lead the day with 13 points. She sank 5-6 shots, including two long bombs. She would be the only player to reach double figures. She was followed by senior guard Hannah Kash with 9 points and 5 assists.
Sophomore Katie Jo Moore added 6 points and led with 4 steals. Senior center Bailee Brainard and sophomore forward Madison Thompson both grabbed 9 rebounds, while Thompson added 2 blocks.
The Caney Club finished shooting 32.1% (17-53) from the field and 36.4% (4-11) from long range. They connected on 77.8% from the charity line (14-18), while adding 32 rebounds, 11 assists, 2 blocks, and 13 steals.
CU (0-2) was paced by guard Kevanika Brown with 15 points. Her squad finished shooting 29.4% (15-51) from the field and just 6.7% (1-15) from behind the arc. They shot 53.3% (8-15) from the foul line. They also added 31 rebounds, 7 assists, and 8 steals.
The Lady Eagles return to action on Tuesday, November 8th when they host the Asbury University Lady Eagles for a 7:00 pm tipoff.
