
Lady Eagles Overcome Double-Digit Deficit to Remain Perfect
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles trailed for over thirty minutes before unleashing a huge fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Carlow University Lady Celtics, 67-52. The matchup took place Saturday afternoon at the Perry Campus Center.
In the opening period, points were tough to obtain for the hosts as they quickly fell behind. Carlow would lead 11-7 before the Lady Eagles would drain four late free throws to tie the score at 11-11.
In the second quarter, the hosts stayed cold, and they went scoreless for the first 6:30. This enabled the Celtics to pull out to a 20-11 advantage. Thankfully, the duo of senior guard Hannah Kash and freshman Shelby Stewart combined for 8 points to help chip into the lead, but CU still led 25-21 at intermission.
In the third period, the Caney Creek club still could not buy a basket, which permitted Carlow to pull out to a 31-21 lead at 7:21. Fortunately, for the second consecutive game, the home squad finally answered, as they rolled off a 17-9 spurt the rest of the way, and only trailed 40-38 at periods end.
In the final stanza, Coach John Mills's chargers would suddenly come alive. Sparked by 10 crucial points from Kash, as well as 6 more from junior forward Madison Thompson, ALC would dominate the quarter, 29-12, to make the comeback complete.
For Alice Lloyd (6-0; 2-0 RSC), Kash led everyone with 18 points while drilling 7-8 charity tosses. She added 5 rebounds, dished off 4 assists, and nabbed 2 steals.
Stewart added 12 points, while freshman forward Kaylee Banks came off the bench to score 9 points. In addition, senior forward Bailee Brainard added 7 points and 7 rebounds while sophomore guard Katie Jo Moore registered 4 steals.
The victors won by shooting 31.3% (20-64) from the field and 20% (5-25) from long range. They connected on 88% (22-25) from the foul line. They also added 44 rebounds, 14 assists, and 9 steals.
CU (3-3; 2-0 RSC) was paced by Megan Ost with 18 points. Her squad finished shooting just 37.3% (19-51) from the field and 18.2% (4-22) from deep. They connected on 90.9%% (10-11) from the foul line. They also added 32 rebounds, 10 assists, and 7 steals.
The Lady Eagles return next Tuesday when they travel to Wilmore to face the Asbury Lady Eagles. Tipoff is set for 5:00 pm.
