
Lady Eagles Overcome 1st Quarter Deficit to Defeat OCU
Circleville, OH: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles overcame a slow start and utilized a solid attack over the final three periods to defeat the homestanding Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers 73-59. The matchup took place Saturday afternoon in the Buckeye state.
In the opening period, points were tough to obtain for the guests as they only sank 3-15 attempts. Due to this, the home club led 15-10 after ten minutes of play.
In the second quarter, the Lady Eagles heated up, behind the backcourt duo of freshman Shelby Stewart and senior Hannah Kash , who combined for 19 big points. Due to this, ALC would lead 35-34 at intermission.
In the third period, the Caney Creek club would receive 13 important points, courtesy of the inside-outside combo of senior center Bailee Brainard and sophomore guard Katie Jo Moore. This enabled the Caney Creek girls to extend their cushion to 55-48 heading into the last quarter.
In the final stanza, Coach John Mills chargers would fight to hold a 58-52 lead with 4:27 remaining before Kash and Stewartdrained back-to-back trifectas to push the advantage to twelve (64-52). From there, they slammed the door shut by draining 9-10 free throws to extend the lead, keep the Trailblazers at bay, and earn the sweet victory.
For Alice Lloyd (8-1; 3-0 RSC), Kash led everyone with 21points while drilling 9-12 charity tosses. She added 5 rebounds,dished off 4 assists, and nabbed 3 steals.
Stewart added 17 points and was a perfect 6-6 from the charity line while Brainard added 12 points. Junior forward Madison Thompson grabbed 6 boards.
The victors won shooting 37.7% (23-61) from the field and 29.4% (5-17) from long range. They connected on 78.6% (22-28) from the foul line, and added 38 rebounds, 19 assists, and 12steals.
CU (2-8; 1-3 RSC) were paced by Haley Cox and Emma Koons, each with 13 points. Their squad finished shooting just 34.4% (21-61) from the field and 37% (10-27) from deep. They connected on 53.8% (7-13) from the foul line. They also added 37 rebounds, 17 assists, and 2 steals.
The Lady Eagles return next Saturday when they travel to West Virginia to face the WV Tech Lady Bears at 2:00pm in a huge conference matchup.
