Lady Eagles Ride Big First Half to Defeat Brescia University

Pippa Passes, KY:   The Alice Lloyd College trio of Hannah Kash, Bailee Brainard, and Madison Thompson combined for 32 first-half points to lift the Lady Eagles to a solid 73-56 River States Conference victory over the Brescia University Lady Bearcats. The matchup took place Saturday afternoon, January 7th.

In the opening period, junior forward Thompson dominated the action, scoring 8 points and grabbing six rebounds, to give her club a 21-14 advantage after ten minutes of play.

In the second quarter, the big three were perfect from the floor, scoring 16 points, which allowed their club to take the stanza 20-9. The Caney Creek crew would enter intermission with a solid 41-23 lead.

In the third period, the hosts would continue their solid play as they took the segment 20-16. This would enable the Pippa Passes ladies to stretch their advantage to 61-39 heading into the last ten minutes.

In the final quarter, the Bearcats would outscore their foes 17-12, but it was too little, too late, as Coach John Mills was able to freely use his bench and earn their 13th victory of the season.

For the Pippa Passes posse (13-3; 5-2 RSC), senior guard Kash led all scorers with 18 points. She also handed off five assists. Senior center Brainard sank 7-8 field goals to finish with 15 points. She also led everyone with six assists and three steals. Thompson finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots in just 12 minutes of action, while sophomore forward McKayla May came off the bench to chip in with 7 points and seven rebounds.

The victors won, shooting 48.1% (26-54) from the field and 25% (2-8) from long range. They connected on 78% (19-25) from the foul line and added 45 rebounds, 21 assists, and seven steals.

Union (0-15; 0-7 RSC) was led by Paige Vanzant with 9 points, as ALC did not allow anyone to reach double digits. Her squad finished shooting 37.5% (21-56) from the field and 25% (3-12) from long range. They connected on 61.1% (11-18) from the foul line. They also added 25 rebounds, 14 assists, and six steals.

The Lady Eagles return to action next Saturday in a huge conference showdown at Indiana University East University on January 14th. Tipoff is set for 1:00pm (EST).
