Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Close Regular Season with Big Victory Over West Virginia Tech University, 69-56

Pippa Passes, KY:   The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles returned to the friendly confines of the Perry Campus Center to conclude the regular season on Saturday, February 18th. The hosts got out to a blazing start and rode that effort to take down the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears, 69-56.

In the opening period, the Lloyd ladies came out on fire, rolling off a 14-2 lead five minutes in. Sophomore forward McKayla May pumped in 8 points overall to lead her squad to a 22-7 advantage after ten minutes of play.

In the second quarter, ALC would come out with the hot hand once again. Sparked by 7 points from sophomore guard Katie Jo Moore, the Lady Eagles produced a 14-8 burst. With 4:25 showing, the Pippa Passes posse held a commanding 36-15 cushion.

However, WVT would utilize the shooting of leading scorer Faith Silva and close with a 10-0 run of their own. Still, the Kentucky club would hold a 36-25 advantage at intermission.

In the third period, the Lady Eagles would see senior guard Hannah Kash and sophomore guard Shelby Stewart heat up and combine for 15 points. Their big effort helped the hometown crew take the stanzas 25-15. Alice Lloyd would hold a solid 61-40 lead entering the last ten minutes.

In the final quarter, Tech would attempt to rally as Silva pumped in 13 points for her troops. However, it was too little too late as the Caney Creek crew could not be caught, and they held on for the big conference victory.

For the Pippa Passes squad (18-7; 11-6 RSC), Kash would lead the way with her typical game. She scored 18 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and led everyone with 6 assists. Moore bagged 15 points, nabbed 6 boards, and handed off 5 assists.

In addition, May and Stewart each added 12 points, Madison Thompson hauled down 10 rebounds, and senior guard Tori Hampton had 4 steals.

The victors won, shooting 38.6% (27-70) from the field and 30.4% (7-23) from long range. They connected on 80% (8-10) from the foul line, and added 49 rebounds, 20 assists, and 11 steals.

WV Tech (16-12; 9-8 RSC) was led by Silva with 27 points. Her squad finished shooting 28.8% (19-66) from the field and 29.6% (8-27) from long range. They connected on 90.9% (10-11) from the foul line. They also added 43 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals.

The Lady Eagles return to action next week on Wednesday, February 22nd in the River States Conference Tournament.  They will host the Indiana University Southeast Lady Grenadiers at 7:00 pm.
