
Midway uses second-half run to defeat Lady Eagles in RSC Semi-Final Round
Midway, KY: On Saturday, February 25th, the East Division #2 seeded Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles had the tough task of traveling to the West Division #1 seed, the Midway University Lady Eagles, in the semi-final round of the River States Conference tournament The hosts broke away from a close game with a second-half burst to take the win,76-60.
In the opening period, the squads battled point-for-point. ALC senior guard Hannah Kash pumped in 8 points in the first ten minutes, but Midway held a slim 16-15 advantage.
In the second quarter, the evenly matched clubs traded buckets the entire way. When Kash sank a late layup to give her points 15 and 16, it also lifted her squad to a tight 31-30 lead at intermission.
In the third period, the central Kentucky club would come out of the locker room hot as they produced a crucial 9-0 run in just two minutes to leap ahead, 39-31. They would then maintain their advantage and pull out to a 57-47 cushion heading into the last quarter.
In the final stanza, the Pippa Passes crew would try their best to hang on. Unfortunately, for the visitors, when forced to send Midway to the charity stripe, they would bag 8-10 charity tosses in the final 4:20 to preserve the hard-fought win.
For Alice Lloyd (19-8). Kash finished with a game-high 29 points, including 4-9 threes. She dished off 4 assists, grabbed 7 boards, and tied sophomore guard Katie Jo Moore with 2 steals. However, she was the only Lady Eagle in double figures. Tori Hampton chipped in 7 points.
In addition, senior center Bailee Brainard snagged 8 rebounds, while junior forward Madison Thompson blocked 2 shots.
The Lady Eagles shot 37.1% (23-63) from the field and 33.3% (12-18) from long range. They connected on 72.7% (8-11) from the foul line, and added 42 rebounds, 13 assists, and 4 steals.
Midway (23-7) was paced by Seriniti Webb with 22 points. Her squad finished shooting 37.5% (24-64) from the field and 38.5% (5-13) from deep. They used the free throw line to their advantage, connecting on 65.7 % (23-35). They also added 43 rebounds, 15 assists, and 16 steals.
