Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Take Down Welch in Convincing Fashion, 90-38 Remain Undefeated

Pippa Passes, KY: On October 28th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles, under the guidance of Coach John Mills, opened the home portion of the 2023-24 campaign by hosting the Welch College Flames.  The hometown girls rode a big defensive effort all the way to a devastating 90-38 victory.

In the opening period, Welch kept things close early and led 10-9 with four minutes remaining. However, sparked by senior guard Hannah Kash, ALC closed the stanza on a 14-1 run and would take a 23-11 lead after ten minutes of action. They were just warming up.

In the second quarter, the Pippa Passes club would unload, as sophomore forward McKenzie Maynard would lead the way of the bench. The Caney Creek crew would unleash a 28-8 barrage, which enabled them to enter intermission with a commanding 51-19 advantage.

As the third period began, the blue and white would continue their steady play as the Eagle reserves saw frequent action. The club scored 15 points while holding WC to just 7. This allowed the Caney Creek club to head into the final ten minutes of play, holding a massive 66-26 cushion.

In the final period, everyone would get in on the action as the Kentucky girls would double the Flames once more with a 24-12 scoring advantage. Coach Mills was able to play his bench freely as his squad cruised to the dominating 90-38 victory.

For Alice Lloyd (2-0), three players reached double figures. They were led on the night by Kash, who pumped in 9-18 attempts (2-5 triples) for 20 points. The feisty guard completed the double-double as she dished out 11 assists. She added 7 rebounds and 3 steals in a stat sheet-stuffing performance.

Maynard was impressive as she bagged 18 points on 9-12 shooting, and sophomore guard Lexy Lynch gave an excellent effort off the bench as well, producing 11 points.

In addition, senior forward Madison Thompson contributed 8 points, 13 boards, and 4 big blocks, while freshman forward Jamie Cowan pumped in 7 points, snared 11 boards, and nabbed 3 steals.

The Caney Club finished shooting 46.3% (38-83) from the field and 25% (6-24) from long range. They connected on 80% from the charity line (8-10) while adding 55 rebounds, 23 assists, 6 blocks and 18 steals.

WC (0-1) was paced by guard Macey Bowman, who was her team's only member to reach double figures, with 10 points. Welch finished shooting just 23.2% (13-56) from the field and a paltry 9.1% (2-22) from behind the arc. They connected on 58.8 (10-17) at the foul line and also added 38 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals.

The Lady Eagles return to action next Thursday, November 2nd, when they play host to the Johnson University Lady Royals at 6:00 pm.
