Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Take Down Welch College, 75-42
Gallatin, TN: On November 11th, the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles journeyed to the Volunteer state to face the homestanding Welch College Lady Flames for the second time this season. The visitors would completely dominate the second and third quarters on their way to a big 75-42 win.
In the first quarter, the Lady Eagles immediately jumped out to a 12-6 advantage at 4:06. However, the Flames would tighten up on defense and close with a 11-2 run to lead 17-14 after ten minutes of action.
In the second stanza, the momentum quickly changed. Relying on a stifling defense that limited WC to just 2-12 shooting, combined with an offense that drained 9-15 attempts, the Pippa Passes posse would go on a 17-2 blitzkrieg to open the period. They would take the segment, 21-5 and head into the locker room leading 35-22.
In the third quarter, they picked up right where they left off, opening with 14 unanswered points to vault ahead, 49-22. Alice Lloyd would control the stanza, 23-4, and hold a commanding 58-26 cushion with ten minutes left to play.
In the final period, the Eagle reserves played freely as the club would never be threatened. When the final horn sounded ending the contest, the Caney Creek crew had earned the solid 33-point victory.
For ALC (3-1) they were led on the night by senior guard Hannah Kash, who drained 9-13 field goals, including 4-6 bombs, for a game-high 23 points. She also led all players by hauling in 8 rebounds and handing off 5 assists.
She was followed in double figures by sophomore forward McKenzie Maynard, whose 14 points came off of 7-9 shooting. She also snared 6 boards and had 3 assists.
Junior guard Katie Jo Moore also reached double-digits, sinking half of her shot attempts to finish with 10 points. She also bagged 5 steals.
In addition, sophomore guard Shelby Stewart chipped in with 9 points while senior forward Madison Thompson swatted 5 shots, and snagged 5 rebounds of her own.
On the night, the victorious club shot 44.3% from the floor (31-70) and 24.1% from long distance (7-29) They also hit 60% from the line (6-10). Additionally, they grabbed 46 rebounds, had 18 assists, swiped 15 steals, and blocked 10 shots.
Welch (1-2) was led by Macey Bowman with 13 points. Her team shot 23.7% (14-59) from the floor, and just 8.3% from long distance (2-24). They did sink 75% from the line (12-16), while grabbing 43 rebounds, gaining 7 assists, and picking off 6 steals.
The Lady Eagles return to the hardwood on Tuesday November 7th for a huge contest against the NAIA's top-15 ranked University of the Cumberland's. Tipoff is set for 8:00pm.
