Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles place five in double figures, take down West Virginia Tech, 82-58

Pippa Passes, KY: On Saturday, December 2nd, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles played host to RSC conference for West Virginia Tech University. The Lady Eagles demonstrated an outstanding display of balance, and defeated the Golden Bears, 82-58.

In the opening period, ALC junior guard Katie Jo Moore would come out hot, knocking down 8 points. Her shooting would lift her club to a 21-13 advantage after ten minutes of play.

In the second quarter, Moore would pump in 7 more points and see teammate Hannah Malcomson drain several long bombs to support the cause. The hosts would take the segment 24-21, and enter intermission leading 45-34.

In the third period, the pace would slow as both teams were cold. However, Lady Eagle senior guard Hannah Kash connected on 5 points to give her team the period, 15-13. ALC would still hold a 60-47 advantage entering the final period of play.

 In the last stanza, the guests would hope to make a big comeback. Happily, for the home fans, the Caney Creek crew would open with a huge 18-6 blitz to open a 78-53 advantage. The clinching run was fueled by the marksmanship from freshman guard Abby Maggard and Malcomson, and sealed the win for the eastern Kentucky crew.

 For Alice Lloyd (6-2, 2-0 RSC), they would place five players in double figures. They were led on the night by Kash, Moore and Malcomson who all pumped in 15 points. Maggard added 12 points of her own, while sophomore forward McKenzie Maynard chipped in with 10. Freshman Jamie Cowan sank 8 more.

Kash led the way with 9 big boards and 6 assists while Maggard and senior forward Madison Ward yanked down 7 rebounds each. In addition, Moore added 5 assists, Maynard swatted 2 shots and senior guard Riley Schreck nabbed 2 steals.

The winning eastern Kentucky team finished shooting 44.4% (32-72) from the field, 35.7% (10-28) from deep, and 66.7% (8-12) from the charity line, while adding 48 rebounds, 19 assists, 6 blocks and 6 steals.

For WV Tech (2-7, 0-2 RSC) they were led on the day Alexis Sexton with 17 points. Her squad finished shooting 34.9% (22-63) from the field and 30% (6-20) from long range. They connected on 50% (8-16) from the foul line, and also added 39 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals.

The Lady Eagles are off until Saturday, December 9th, when they travel to Pittsburg (PA) to face the Point Park Pioneers in a big RSC showdown at 1:00 pm. That will be followed by the men's contest at 3:00 pm.
