Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles earn big conference road victory over Brescia Bearcats, 62-59

Owensboro, Ky: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles traveled to Owensboro on Saturday, January 6th to battle the Brescia Lady Bearcats in RSC action. The Caney Creek crew overcame a first half deficit to bounce back for the big 62-59 win.

In the opening period, the hosts came out of the gate on fire, sinking 69% of their shots.  Senior guard Hannah Kash produced 7 of her squads' points, but 28% accuracy from the Lady Eagles, saw them trailing to a 19-13 after ten minutes of play.

In the second quarter, the Pippa Passes posse promptly turned the tables as they tightened the screws on defense. Senior forward Madison Ward came off the bench to spark her club with 6 points in a 14-6 edge. This enabled the Lady Eagles to claw there way back for a 27-26 advantage at intermission.

In the third period, ALC saw guard Abby Maggard heat up in a major way. The freshman swished all five of her shots, including 4-4 trifectas, for 14 huge points. This pushed the Alice Lloyd lead to eight (49-41) entering the final ten minutes of play.

In the game-deciding stanza, the Bearcats fought back hard. Despite 7 points from ALC's Kash, BU actually whittled the contest down to a one-possession match (61-59) and got the ball back with .31 showing.

On the ensuing possession, Brescia guard Elise Williams beat her defender and sped in for the game-tying layup. Fortunately for the visitors, it rolled off the rim and was snagged by Lady Eagle senior forward Madison Thompson.

After a timeout, Brescia fouled freshman forward Jamie Cowan who sank 1-2 charity tosses to give her club a 62-59 edge, BU got the ball back at .04. Fortunately, for the Pippa Passes fans, they were unable to get off a shot as time expired, chalking up the important victory for the royal blue and white.

For Alice Lloyd (8-6; 3-3 RSC), Kash pumped in a game-high 19 points. She also nabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 2 assists. Maggard chipped in 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. She also tied Kash with 2 steals.  Ward came up big and contributed 12 points.

In addition, Thompson led the club with 8 caroms while senior guard Riley Schreck handed off 3 assists.

The Caney Club finished shooting 38.2% (21-55) from the field and 31% (9-29) from long range. They connected on 55% (11-20) from the foul line while adding 38 rebounds, 10 assists, 5 blocks and 6 steals.

Lindsey Payton led BU (4-9; 0-5 RSC) with 14 points. Her squad finished shooting 42.1% (24-57) from the field, 20% (3-15) from behind the arc, and 44.4% (8-18) from the charity stripe. They also added 38 rebounds, 14 assists and 10 steals.

The Lady Eagles return to the hardwood for two home contests next week. On Tuesday, January 9th, they host the Asbury University Lady Eagles in a non-conference rivalry game at 5:00 pm. They then play an important conference match on Saturday, January 13th against the Indiana University East Red Wolves, Tipoff is set for 1:00 pm.
