Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles defeat Midway University, 78-69
Pippa Passes, KY: On Saturday, January 27th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles hosted the Midway University Eagles in RSC action. The Kentucky squad came ready to play and took down the central Kentucky squad, 78-69.
In the opening stanza, ALC freshman guard Abby Maggard pumped in 8 points to lead her club to a good start out of the gate. The hosts would jump ahead, 18-10 after ten minutes of play.
In the second quarter, the hosts turned to senior guard Hannah Kash who jammed in half of her squads 20 points. Midway would battle, but the Pippa Passes crew would head into intermission with a 38-30 advantage.
In the third period, the two Eagle clubs traded hoops in an evenly matched battle. Fortunately for the home fans, Kash and Maggard combined for 18 of their teams 22 points to help win the stanza, 22-20 ALC led 60-50 entering the last quarter.
In the final period, Midways Sereniti Webb tried to help her club chip into the deficit. Thankfully, Alice Lloyd sank enough free throws to keep the Midway team at bay and shut the door on the important win.
For Alice Lloyd (10-10;5-6 RSC), Kash, led the way by pouring in 26 points on 10-22 field goals. She added 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. She was followed by Maggard, with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals of her own.
In addition, senior forward Madison Thompson chipped in with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks, senior guard Riley Schreck grabbed 9 boards and freshman forward Jamie Cowan contributed 7 rebounds to the cause.
The eastern Kentucky team finished shooting 42.6% (29-68) from the field and 30.8% (8-26) from long range. They also finished 57.1% (12-21) from the foul line while adding 47 rebounds, 15 assists, 5 blocks and 13 steals.
MU (8-13; 4-7 RSC) was led by Webb with 14 points. Her squad finished shooting 35.7% (25-70) from the field, 17.4% (4-23) from behind the arc, and 55.6% (15-27) from the charity stripe. They also added 48 rebounds, 12 assists, 8 blocks and 11 steals
The Lady Eagles return to action on Tuesday January 30th when they travel to Wilmore to face the homestanding Asbury University Eagles at 6 pm. They then return home Saturday, February 3rd when they face the high-scoring Ohio Christian Trailblazers in RSC play. Tipoff is at 1:00 pm.
