Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles drop close contest to Shawnee State University, 59-53
Pippa Passes, KY: On Tuesday, February 6th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles returned home to face the Shawnee State University Lady Bears in RSC action. The hosts fought hard, but cold shooting proved detrimental as they dropped a 59-53 decision.
In the opening stanza, ALC managed to sink only 33% of their attempts. Fortunately, they used a stingy defense to limit SSU to just 9% accuracy. This helped the hosts lead 11-6 after ten minutes of action.
In the second quarter, Alice Lloyd senior guard Hannah Kash produced 5 of her squads' points, but they were outscored 14-11. Thankfully, two late Kash free throws gave her team a slight 22-20 advantage heading into intermission.
In the third stanza, the Ohio squad would finally begin to find the bottom of the bucket as they would take the quarter, 18-11. This vaulted them to a 38-33 lead heading into the final ten minutes of play.
After scoring 11 points in each of the first three periods, the Pippa Passes posse finally unleashed a 20-point segment in the final ten minutes. This was sparked by a combined 16 points from the freshman duo of forward Jamie Cowan and guard Abby Maggard.
Unfortunately for the home fans, Lady Bear Chianne Gloster pumped in 10 points by herself, including several big free throws. This helped her team earn 22 points, and withstand the Eagle comeback.
For Alice Lloyd (10-13; 5-8 RSC), Kash led the way with 19 points. She added 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Cowan, would contribute 12 points and 6 rebounds while Maggard chipped in with 9 points.
In addition, senior forward Madison Thompson added 7 rebounds and 7 massive blocks, while junior guard Katie Jo Moore led the way with 2 steals.
The eastern Kentucky team finished shooting a chilly 29.4% (15-51) from the field and 14.8% (4-27) from long range. They also sank 79.2% (17-24) from the foul line while adding 37 rebounds, 10 assists, 11 blocks and 4 steals.
Gloster led Shawnee (15-9; 7-6 RSC) with 17 points. Her squad finished shooting 32.8% (19-58) from the field, 15.4% (2-13) from behind the arc and 70.4% (19-27) from the charity stripe. They also added 43 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 block and 8 steals.
