
ALC Lady Eagles drop conference opener at Indiana East, 78-67
Richmond, IN: On Saturday, December 7th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles ventured to the Hoosier state to battle the Indiana University East Lady Red Wolves in basketball action. The hosts would overcome a big performance from Lady Eagle guard Katie Jo Moore to pull out the 78-67 victory.
In the opening period, the Lady Eagles and IUE traded buckets before the home club closed with a run to lead 19-12 after ten minutes of action.
In the second quarter, the big city girls used the scoring of Peyton Wells to take the stanza, 20-11. This would hand the Red Wolves a solid 39-23 advantage at intermission.
In the third period, the Bluegrass bunch used the one-two punch of Moore and sophomore forward Jamie Cowan to match IUE, 19-19. Despite this play, East still maintained a comfortable 58-42 cushion heading into the home stretch.
In the final ten minutes, IU East received some big points from Eilysa Morris to counter the scoring of Alice Lloyd's Moore and Cowan. Although the Lady Eagles would keep things interesting by taking the segment 25-20, the Indiana crew would manage to hold on and seal the victory.
For ALC (3-8; 0-1 RSC), Moore sank 12-16 field goals (3-5 3FG) for a game-high 30 points. She also led everyone with 5 assists. Cowan provided 7-10 accuracy on the interior for 17 points, and matched freshman guard Bailey Stewart with 6 rebounds apiece. Stewart also led the way with 3 steals while sophomore center Emily Estes hauled down 9 boards
The Caney Club finished shooting 39.7% (27-68) from the field and 24% (6-25) from long range. They connected on 77.8% (7-9) from the foul line while adding 41 rebounds, 14 assists and 9 steals.
Wells and Morris paced IUE (4-5; 1-0 RSC) with 18 points apiece. Their squad finished shooting 41.9% (26-62) from the field, 34.8% (8-23) from behind the arc and 72% (18-25) from the charity stripe. They also added 41 rebounds, 15 assists and 6 steals.
The Lady Eagles are off until December 16th, when they play host to the Welch College Lady Flames. Tipoff is set at 1:00 p.m.
