Moore sparks Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles to 72-65 conference win over West Virginia Tech,

Pippa Passes , KY: Senior guard Katie Jo Moore helped the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles ring in the new year right as she pumped in 25 points to lift her squad to a 72-65 victory over the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears. The River States Conference matchup took place at the Perry Center and  "Coach J" Court on January 4th.

In the opening period, sparked by a  solid defensive effort which limited Tech to just 9 points, the hosts pulled out to a 15-9 advantage after ten minutes of action.

In the second quarter,  the Lady Golden Bears used the shooting of Cadence Stewart to roar back and take a 26-22 lead. However, the home crowd would see their crew close on a 10-4 burst to creep ahead 32-30 at intermission.

In the third period, Tech saw Stewart bag 9 points to lead a resurgance from the Mountaineer squad. WVT would take the stanza 19-16 to make it a one-possession game heading into the championship minutes.

In the fourth stanza, Alice Lloyd turned to the one-two punch of Moore and sophomore forward Jamie Cowan, and they delivered in a major way. With their squad trailing 54-50 at 9:01, the duo combined for 12 consecutive points to rally the troops. At 5:01, ALC led 62-56, and the hosts would control the contest the rest of the way to slam the door shut and seal the nice victory.

For Alice Lloyd (6-8; 1-1 RSC), three players would hit double-digits. They were led by Moore, who swished 11-17 field goals and 3-3 free thows for her game-high 25 points. She also tied freshman guard Bailey Stewart with 7 rebounds.

She was joined in double figures by sophomore guard Kennedy Harvel, who bagged a trio of bombs to finish with 13 points, and Cowan, who connected on 5-7 attempts to finish with 12 points. She also tied Moore for the assist lead, each producing 3.

In addition, freshman guard Elivia Moore came through with 3 steals while sophomore center Emily Estes swatted a pair of shots.

The Caney Creek Club finished shooting 42.9% (27-63) from the field and 18.2% (4-22) from long range. They connected on 77.8% (14-18) from the foul line while adding 49 rebounds, 12 assists, 4 blocks, and 7 steals.

Candace Stewart paced WVT (1-11; 0-2 RSC) with 18 points. Her squad finished shooting 35.9% (23-64) from the field, 26.9% (7-26) from behind the arc, and 50% (12-24) from the charity stripe. They also added 38 rebounds, 16 assists, 2 blocks, and 7 steals.

The Lady Eagles return home on Tuesday, January 7th to face the Midway College Eagles. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
