Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles fall at #8 Rio Grande University

Rio Grande, OH: On Saturday, January 12th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles ventured to the Buckeye state to battle the NAIA's #8 squad, the Rio Grande Red Storm. The hosts put on an incredible shooting display, demonstrating why they earned their lofty ranking and earned the big victory, 138-87.

In the opening period, the hosts came out with guns-a-blazing, as they bagged 14-24 shot attempts, plus 12-13 free throws to light up the board. After ten minutes of action, they led 43-18. 

In the second quarter, the Ohio club shot even better. They would nail 17-22 attempts for a staggering 77.3% accuracy. When the buzzer finally sounded, signaling halftime, they had produced 79 points on 67% accuracy and led 79-37.

In the third period, the Bluegrass team received a combined 15 points from the sophomore duo of forward Jamie Cowan and guard Kennedy Harvel and took the stanza 25-22. However, RGU led 101-62 with ten minutes remaining to play.

In the final quarter, Rio unloaded for another 37 points to maintain its advantage. ALC produced 25 of its own, but the contest was never in doubt.

For ALC (6-9; 1-3 RSC), Cowan sank 5-11 field goals (2-3 3FG) and all 8 foul shots for 20 points. She was joined in double figures by senior guard Katie Jo Moore, Harvel, and freshman forward Kaison Ward, each with 10 points.

Cowan was joined by sophomore forward Emily Estes and freshman forward Katie Marcum, each nabbing 4 rebounds. Junior guard Aziah Campbell recorded 4 assists, while Estes had 2 blocks.

The Caney Club finished shooting 40% (30-75) from the field and 40% (10-25) from long range. They connected on 89.5% (17-19) from the foul line while adding 27 rebounds, 15 assists and 4 steals.

Jasmine Jordan and Kaylee Darnell paced the Red Storm (12-3; 2-1 RSC) with 22 points apiece. Seven players reached double figures in all. Additionally, their squad finished shooting a blistering 62.1% (54-87) from the field, 53.3% (8-15) from behind the arc and 84.6% (22-26) from the charity stripe. They also added 47 rebounds, 33 huge assists, and 12 steals.

The Lady Eagles are off until January 14th, when they return to Ohio to battle the Shawnee State Bears. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
