
Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles pull away for solid 82-63 victory over IU Columbus
Columbus, IN: On Saturday, January 18th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles ventured to the Hoosier state to battle the home-standing Indiana University-Columbus Crimson Pride in River States Conference action. Sparked by the sophomore duo of Jamie Cowan and Kennedy Harvel, the Kentucky club broke away for a solid 82-63 victory.
In the opening period, the visitors came out flat, and the Crimson Pride took advantage. They would control the segment and hold a 15-12 lead at quarter's end. The next ten minutes would completely flip the script.
In the second quarter, Harvel scored 10 points to lead a Lady Eagle resurgence. Her scoring enabled the guests to take the segment 25-9 and elevate her team to a 37-24 advantage by intermission.
In the third period, Cowan did the honors as her 10-points would lead to a 27-point windfall. When the buzzer sounded, signaling the period end, Alice Lloyd held a commanding 64-43 cushion.
In the fourth, Alice Lloyd maintained its advantage, pulling out to a 26-point lead. It would never be threatened as it cruised to a nice road win.
For Alice Lloyd (7-10; 2-4), three players would hit double-digits. They were led by the forward-guard tandem of Cowan and Harvel, each with 20. Cowan sank 7-12 field goals for 20 points and recorded a double-double as she ripped down 10 rebounds. Harvel swished 10-16 shots to provide 20 more points. Sophomore guard Bailey Stewart joined the double-figure club as she chipped in with 13 points on 6-9 accuracy.
In addition, freshman guard Elivia Moore contributed 9 points, 4 steals, and 5 boards, while senior guard Katie Jo Moore added 4 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 points.
The Caney Club finished shooting 47.3% (35-73) from the field and a frigid 5.3% (1-19) from long range. They connected on 64.7% (11-17) from the foul line while adding 40 rebounds, 16 assists, and 16 steals.
Jacelyn Sparks led IUC (2-15; 0-6 RSC) with a big 31-point effort. Her squad finished shooting 35.8% (19-53) from the field, 19% (4-19) from behind the arc, and 63.6% (21-33) from the charity stripe. They also added 28 rebounds, 7 assists, and 11 steals.
The Lady Eagles return home on Thursday, January 23rd, for an important matchup with RSC foe Indiana University Kokomo. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
