Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles drop 64-54 decision at Oakland City University

Oakland City, IN: On Thursday, January 30th, the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles took to the road to battle the division-leading Oakland City Lady Oaks in River States Conference play. When the final buzzer sounded to end the contest, the hosts had managed to pull out a 64-54 victory.

In the first period, OCU turned on the pressure, which paid dividends. The home squad would lead 19-10 after ten minutes of action.

In the second quarter, the Bluegrass club would fight to keep the match close. However, a couple of late baskets enabled the Hoosier squad to take the segment, 19-15, and Oakland City would head into intermission holding a 38-25 advantage.

In the third period, the Caney team saw sophomore forward Jamie Cowan help her teammates get the deficit within single digits (41-33) by the midpoint. Unfortunately, the Lady Oaks would close with a big surge and take a  57-36 advantage heading into the final stanza.

In the final ten minutes of play, Lady Eagle sophomore guard Kennedy Harvel and freshman guard Elivia Moore would produce points as their crew would make a final run. Although the Pippa Passes posse would never quit and manage to get within single digits, they could not overcome OCU before the final buzzer sounded.

For ALC (8-12; 3-6 RSC), Cowan delivered a solid 13-point, 13-rebound double-double. However, she was the only Lady Eagle to hit double figures. Freshman forward Kaison Ward chipped in with 8 points, while Harvel and Moore both added 7. Moore also chipped in 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Freshman guard Ashtyn Barrett recorded 2 blocks.

The Caney Club finished shooting 31.4% (16-54) from the field and 23.1% (3-13) from long range. They connected on 70.4% (19-27) from the foul line while adding 43 rebounds, 11 assists, 12 steals, and 6 blocks.

Emilee Hope and Gabrielle Joyner led the Oaks (13-7; 8-1 RSC) with 14 points apiece. Their squad finished shooting 33.8% (22-65) from the field, 15.8% (3-19) from behind the arc and 63% (17-27) from the charity stripe. They also added 46 rebounds, 12 assists, and 16 steals.

Neither squad did themselves any favors by recording 31 and 26 turnovers, respectively.

The Lady Eagles continue their road trip by traveling to Brescia University on February 1st, for a matchup with the Brescia University Lady Bearcats in RSC play. Tip-off is set for 4:00 pm, EST.
