Alice Lloyd Volleyball Plays Three Over the Weekend

On September 30th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team journeyed to the Mountaineer State for two matchups. First, they faced the Appalachian Bible College Lady Warriors. They followed that up with a River States Conference contest against the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears. Then, on October 1st, they journeyed down I-64 to Louisville (KY) to face the Boyce College Lady Bulldogs. After the tough trio-of-contests were over, the Pippa Passes squad finished 1-2.

September 30

Game One

Facing the Warriors in set 1, ALC came out with a focused effort. The game was tight early, but the visiting Lady Eagles slowly pulled away to take a 25-19 win.

In set 2, ALC played very well and jumped out quickly. They would build a cushion and extend it on their way to the 25-14 win.

In set 3, the squads battled evenly as ABC knew they needed the set to stay alive. Although the match was close, ALC closed with the big kills to earn the 25-22 victory, and sweep the match.

On the day, Caroline Parsons led ALC (4-6) with 15 assists, while Brooklyn Cheek had 9 kills. Jenni Droke led everyone with 16 digs. Adreonna Schutz had 5 big aces while Kyleah Ward registered 3 blocks.

Game Two

ALC left the Appalachian gymnasium and promptly drove ten miles down the road to face WV Tech in a conference matchup. In set 1, the squads traded blows as the hosts clung to a 15-14 advantage. Suddenly, Tech closed on a big 10-2 run, and took the opener, 25-16.

In set 2, the hosts exploded out of the gate on a 14-6 blitz. They would coast all the way to the 25-13 win.

In set 3, the Caney Creek crew battled for their very lives and were nursing an 18-16 lead. Impressively, they would unleash 5 massive kills, and close on a 7-2 spurt to take the game, 25-18.

In critical set 4, Alice Lloyd dug an early hole, and promptly trailed 12-7. Fortunately, 7 kills fueled a 12-6 run to propel the visitors to 19-16 advantage. The match appeared headed to a tie-break game, but with the score knotted at 21-21, the Golden Bears turned the tables with 4 swift kills of their own, to pull off the comeback and close the day, 25-21.

For the match, Caroline Parsons and Kristin Isaac led ALC (4-7) with 21 and 16 assists. Kyleah Ward smashed 14 kills while Adreonna Schutz and Brooklyn Cheek each had 9. In addition, Jenni Droke led with 18 digs, Ward contributed 3 blocks, and Schutz and Isaac each smacked 2 aces.

 October 1st

Facing the Bulldogs in Louisville, ALC came out flat.  The opening set was all Boyce, and the game ended with the host's way ahead, 25-9.

In set 2, the Lady Eagles regrouped as the match was a back-and-forth affair. Unfortunately, BC made the late critical plays to earn the win, 25-22.

In set 3, ALC had to win or go home. Once again, the contest was extremely close. Unfortunately, the Louisville squad had a little more in the tank than their counterparts and sealed the contest with a close 25-22 win.

On the day, Kristin Isaac (10) and Caroline Parsons (9) led ALC in assists. Kyleah Ward had 7 kills, while Jenni Droke led everyone with 12 digs. Parsons had the lone ace, while Ward and Lakyn Porter both registered 2 blocks.

The Lady Eagles (4-8) will next journey to Ohio for two contests. They will face Ohio Christian University in a conference matchup Friday, October 7th at 7:00 pm. They then travel to Middletown (OH) the next day to play Miami University-Middletown at 10:00 am.
