Alice Lloyd Volleyball Travels to Pikeville
Pikeville, KY: On August 29th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team journeyed to Pikeville to face the homestanding Lady Bears. After the smoke had cleared, the hosts emerged with a 3-0 victory.
In set 1, UPike raced out to a 12-5 advantage only to watch the scrappy Eagles roll off a 5-1 run to get within striking range (13-10). However, the Bears would settle down and answer with a big 8-1 burst to leap ahead 21-11. They would then close out the game 25-13.
In set 2, the hometown club roared out of the gate with a 15-3 blitz, and used that momentum to cruise to the 25-14 win.
In set 3, the Pippa Passes crew would trail 11-7 before watching Pikeville roll off a crucial 11-4 momentum-changing run to double up the score. (22-11). They then closed out the night with a solid 25-15 win.
For the match, Kristen Issac and Taylor Hamilton led ALC with 5 and 3 assists respectively, while Kyleah Ward and TK Ellis smacked 3 kills apiece. Ellis paved the way with 11 digs, and Akira Keathley registered 3 blocks.
The Lady Eagles return to action when they travel to conference foe Saint Mary of the Woods to participate in a four-game panorama. On September 1st, they will face Miami-Middletown and Kalamazoo. These will be followed the next day by matches against Principia and Goshen College.
