Alice Lloyd Volleyball Hosts Hoosier Duo in Weekend Conference Series

Pippa Passes, KY: Over the weekend, the Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles welcomed two of the River States Conference top contenders to the Bluegrass state. On Friday, September 29th, the 10-6 (5-2 RSC) Indiana University Southeast Lady Greanadiers visited Caney Creek, and on Saturday, September 30th, the 13-6 (6-1 RSC) Indiana University East Red Wolves made the trek. The hosts gave a good account of themselves, but the final results were in favor of the visiting teams.

 

September 29th

IU Southeast-3; ALC-0

The fight was there, but the Lady Eagles could not overcome Southeast. In set 1, the contest was tight early, as the visitors led 10-9. However, they would roll off ten unanswered points to sprint ahead, 20-9. To their credit, ALC battled back, but the Grenadiers would hold on for the 25-18 win.

In set 2, IUS would grab an early lead and maintain a slight advantage throughout. The hosts would respond to get within four (18-14), before Southeast finally put the game away with a 7-2 burst to win, 25-16.

In set 3, the hometown ladies showed their grit by battling to within three points (16-13). Unfortunately, the powerful Hoosier team was able to close the festivities with a patented 9-1 sprint to seal the match, 25-15.

For the contest, the Indiana squad would produce 49 big kills compared to the Eagles 16, and achieve a shut-out in aces (7-0). They also led in digs (59-41) and assists (48-18). Individually for Alice Lloyd, Kristen Issac paced ALC (2-13; 0-4 RSC) with 8 assists, and Taylor Hamilton chipped in with 4. Brooklyn Cheek led the club with 8 kills. Kyleah Ward (6) and Natalie Waddell (3) paved the way in blocks.

 

 September 30th

IU East-3; ALC-0

The East Division-leading Red Wolves proved why they are a top contender in the league this season.

The opening set saw IUE creep out to a 7-6 advantage, only to see them roll off a 10-1 burst to vault ahead, 17-7. They then closed the game out from there and won, 25-13.

In set 2, the Pippa Passes team was determined to hang close and only trailed 13-11 by the midway point. Once again, the Red Wolves unleashed a patented blitz as they closed with a 12-3 run to win, 25-14.

In set 3, the Hoosier squad vowed not to go to a fourth game, and they sprinted out of the gate to a 10-3 lead. From that point, they would close out the match to earn the sweep.

On the day, the victors would produce 32 kills compared to the host's 14, and win in digs (51-34) and assists (32-13). Individually, Isaac and Taylor Hamilton led ALC in assists with 6 and 5 respectively, while Ward and Wesley paved the way in kills with 3 each. Parsons and Gracie Gibson were the dig leaders, both with 8, while Parsons, TK Ellis, and Charity Sizemore each provided an ace.
